Piarari Key
Vasia (vah-sia): snowflake~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The dreaded day had come, quicker than I wanted of course. Today I had to face the Council for the first time without Cyris by my side. It had been five days since he'd left and I'd been anxious about having this meeting without him. I had to do my best to keep things civil with the Council Lords, no matter what.
Currently, I was sitting in the Council chamber, listening to the Lords drone on about why my relief fund was a bad idea. Lord Byron was the latest to take a stab at destroying my generous idea.
"Of course the Ice Queen would think it's appropriate for nobles to give away their wealth," Lord Byron scoffed. "She'd rather us all have cold winters without food on our tables."
And that comment sent me hurdling back to Cliffbarrow.
The Ice Princess killed our crops with her freaky frost.
It's all her fault!
How are we going to get through the winter now?!
I went pale and stood up, hastily excusing myself from the meeting as my heart pounded and my anxiety rose. I was panicking as my mind was forced to travel back to that awful place in my past. I left the Council chamber and rushed down the hall, barely hearing Sidra call out for me in concern. I managed to make it to my study and started breaking down as I slammed the door shut. I sank to the ground and pulled out my phone, fumbling with it as I did.
Cyris had always been able to calm me. So I quickly dialled his number and held the phone up to my ear, needing to hear his voice.
"Come on...please pick up... Please..." I pleaded shakily as I heard the ringing. Ice began forming on the floor underneath me.
I was grateful that Cyris picked up right away.
"Rose, hey!"
"Hi love..." I greeted him in a quavering voice.
"Rosanna, what's the matter?" he asked after a moment, his tone serious.
"I'm...I'm not okay right now...a Council member...Lord Byron...thought it was appropriate to call me the Ice Queen and my mind has drifted back to my days in Cliffbarrow," I admitted. "I've shut myself in my study, much to everyone's shock. Gods I'm so stupid... I just made a complete fool of myself in front of the Council because I can't handle that dark space in my head..." A sob escaped my lips. Was I in way over my head? Could I really do this?
Cyris breathed deeply into the phone. "Rose. I'm coming back. Ren will stay here and I'll come home for a few days. Then I'll go back to Riofalt," he uttered.
"No, Cyris! You still have work to do there!" I protested.
"I don't care," he huffed. "I will not allow my wife to be disrespected in any way. I refuse."
More ice appeared on the walls as my panic and anxiety rose.
"Cyris...please...I didn't call you to ask you to come home. I called you because I'm breaking down and I need you to help me get a grip... Help me...please..." I pleaded as I switched the call to video, letting him see my distraught expression and the ice covered walls and floor.
"Oh, baby...my Vasia. I hate to see you like this... I think it would be best if I came back..."
"You can't abandon Kian like that...he needs your help. I'll...I'll be fine... I...I just need a thicker skin I guess..." I said as tears streamed down my cheeks.
