We had everything packed, and we had a set plan. Our journey to Wintervale was going to be long, uncomfortable, and most likely dangerous, but Rosanna and I were ready. We had mastered drawing on each other's magic, and our combat skills were sharp; even Farryn and Polaris did extra training. Our first stop was Cliffbarrow, and it was the town I worried most about. I mean, Rosanna was definitely in a better head space, but I still had this feeling of nervousness I couldn't shake.

We couldn't bring too much, so we settled for one backpack for each of us, sleeping bags, and a tent. We waited until we were out in the woods before Farryn took her drake form and lowered herself to the ground so we could climb onto her back. I got on first and then helped Rosanna up. Polaris climbed on last, and Farryn stretched out her massive wings.

As she began to lift off, Rosanna wrapped her arms around my waist, and my heart was full. I knew Rosanna didn't need my protection, but it made me feel good when she wanted it, even for something as small as wanting my security while we were flying. Farryn floated into the air slowly until she was high above the trees, then she started to soar. I felt Rosanna's grip around me tighten a little, and I held onto her hands with one of mine.

"Don't worry, you'll get used to the motion!" I called out to her.

I felt her nod against my back. It took us a few hours, but we eventually reached the border between Brales and Riofalt. Farryn landed with a swoop of her wings, and then Polaris, Rosanna, and I slid off of her. Polaris looked slightly sick, surprisingly, and for some reason I found it amusing. Farryn shifted back to her human form and Rosanna looked at the woods around us.

"I didn't think I'd ever have to walk through these woods again," she admitted.

I grabbed Rosanna's hand and interlocked our fingers, "I'm right here."

"Polaris, are you okay?" Farryn asked him.

"I'm good, just not used to flying at that speed," he replied, taking a few minutes to breathe and overcome the nausea.

"Is everyone ready?" I glanced at everyone else.

"As I'll ever be," Rosanna replied as she bit her lip.

"This is as far as Farryn and I can physically go with you, Cyris," Polaris told me, having recovered from his nausea. "The two of us are too conspicuous. We'll only draw attention. You can still call out for us and we'll answer your calls. But..."

I nodded and looked at Rosanna. Her words said one thing, but her face said something else.

"Rose," I voiced.

She turned to look at me. "Yeah?"

"You can do this." I gave her an encouraging smile.

She took a deep breath and nodded. The two of us walked forward as Farryn and Polaris vanished. We walked for hours before the sun eventually started to set.

"Should we set up camp?" Rosanna asked. "Cliffbarrow is a two day journey from the border, which means we have another full day of walking ahead."

"Good idea, Vasia."

I helped her set up the tent, and we laid our sleeping bags and blankets inside of it.

"I'm going to gather firewood, it shouldn't take too much time. You stay here, okay?" I said.
