Cyris had struggled to sleep the next night. I think Polaris' warning had really gotten to him. He tossed and turned in bed next to me. I felt the blankets move as he tried to sleep. Eventually I heard a loud gasp, and opened my eyes to find him sitting up in bed. His body was shaking and he was breathing heavily. He must have had a nightmare. The sunlight poured into the room as I wrapped my arms around him and held him close.
"Look at me," I coaxed. He obeyed and I leaned up to brush my lips against his. "You're safe. I'm here with you."
He let out a shaky breath and nodded.
"Do you want to just hang out here for the day?" I asked. He nodded again. I knew that Cyris was terrified of using his powers after Polaris' warning. Despite what we'd told him, Cyris still believed he was turning dark.
We spent most of our day on the couch, watching my favorite TV shows. Cyris kept dozing off, as I expected, because he didn't get much sleep last night. When he finally stayed asleep, I covered him up with a blanket, and left him on the couch. I decided to do some more research on Riofalt to pass the time by.
There was still nothing worth noting from the internet; it was as if the Trillium didn't exist! Or maybe they planned it that way, some kind of spell keeping people from finding information about them. It made me frustrated. So I gave up after a while, and decided to start making dinner for Cyris and me.
I heard a soft groan as I slipped the casserole in the oven and turned to find Cyris stirring on the couch. I went over to him, and kissed his cheek.
"Hey," I said softly. "How do you feel?"
"Hungry," he murmured.
"Dinner is in the oven, it'll be ready soon," I assured him. "Did you sleep okay?"
He stretched out and sat up on the couch, "I'm just glad I got any sleep at all."
I embraced him, holding him tightly. His pain was cutting me to the core because I couldn't do anything to help him. For a moment, it struck me just how close I'd gotten to him. There was a time when I couldn't imagine hugging anyone because of my powers, but Cyris... he'd come into my life, and given me strength. He helped me get comfortable around him, and I wasn't as afraid of being close to him as I once was. Don't get me wrong, I was still nervous, but it was decreasing slowly.
I kissed Cyris' lips briefly, trying to bring him some comfort. He held the back of my head gently and kissed me back. He deepened the kiss, his lips pressed to mine desperately, as if he hadn't kissed me in a long time. I pulled away slowly, and rested my forehead against his.
"Did you have a bad dream last night?" I asked as I tried to catch my breath. He bit his lip. "Cyris... baby... talk to me," I whispered as I straddled his lap. "You don't have to put any walls up around me."
"I did... And I know that I don't have to be afraid with you, Vasia, I just can't seem to shake this feeling. I can't afford to lose myself to the darkness; I have to protect my people," he answered. His voice was soft and full of anguish.
I ran my fingers through his hair, trying to soothe him. "And you will, Cyris," I assured him. "You're a good man."
"You really think so?"
