Ren, Kian, myself, and the rest of the men I brought along had just finished dinner. Kian suggested we check out the room he claimed as his "man cave" for our opinions and that's where we all were headed to when my cell started ringing. I took it out of my pocket and grinned when I saw my wife's name on the screen.
"Hey, Vasia!" I greeted, after I answered my phone.
"Cyris..." Rosanna greeted me in a shaky voice. I felt my emotions shift from joy to concern. Something was wrong.
"Oh no...what's wrong? Are you okay?!" I panicked. My mind started racing a hundred miles a minute, and more than a thousand thoughts were swirling in my head. What had happened? Was she okay? Did something happen to the baby? Was the baby okay?
"Someone...someone broke into our room, Cyris..." I could hear the fear in her quavering voice as spoke. "They tried to kill me."
My heart dropped.
"WHAT?!" I shouted.
I cursed and mumbled to myself before realizing that Kian and Ren should be there for what Rosanna had to say. "Rosanna, please wait a minute... I think your brother and Ren should hear this."
"Okay..." she agreed.
I caught up to the guys, but pulled Ren and Kian aside. The others went into Kian's private room to hang out; thankfully they were making too much noise to hear what we were about to discuss.
"What is it?" Ren asked curiously.
"Cyris, what's going on?" Kian inquired, looking at me with concern.
I held up a hand to silence them both and put Rosanna on speaker.
"Go on, Rose. Tell your brother and Ren what you just told me..." I said, my voice shaking.
"Someone... Someone broke into the Esporian palace...and tried to kill me," Rosanna admitted shakily.
I could hear soft sobs in her voice. She was crying and hearing that broke my heart, but my main focus right now was making sure she was okay.
"WHAT?!" Kian and Ren yelled together.
"S-Someone broke in?! How?!" Ren exclaimed.
"An assassin got into the master suite...through the balcony doors...while I was taking a nap..." Rosanna admitted as she swallowed hard. She sounded really distraught and all I wanted to do was hold her, but I couldn't. Ren let out a shocked breath.
"I'm sending Cyris back," Kian stated.
"No...! You...you don't have to. I'm fine. I'm...as well as I can be... The assassin suppressed my powers and there's a cut on my leg and a bruise on my arm, but Polaris intervened before any serious harm came to me," she assured us. "I... I'm a bit scared, but that doesn't mean you need to send Cyris back...you need him in Riofalt!"
"You need your husband. I can manage here, please, don't fight me on this. It's bad enough I'm not there for my little sister..." Kian countered.
"Kian...don't go there...that wasn't your fault." I knew what she was referring to. She was talking about how Kian hadn't been there for most of her life, but I knew she didn't blame her brother for that at all.
