Finally, I was going home today. Ren, myself, and the rest of the men were currently on the plane when my thoughts started to spiral. My soul soared, but my heart was still hurting. As happy as I was to see Rosanna again, I knew what state she would be in, and I wasn't looking forward to seeing her in that way. Suddenly my phone rang, but I fumbled to get it out of my pocket because Ren was sleeping next to me, and apparently I was his personal pillow.
Once I got my cell out, I saw Polaris' name on the screen. I answered the call quickly, afraid something happened to Rosanna and our unborn child.
"Hello? Are they okay?!"
"Rose and the baby are as good as they can be... but..." Polaris replied, but then he trailed off, unable to finish.
I waited for him to respond, but I got impatient. I inhaled sharply.
"What are you saying, Polaris?!" I uttered. "Please, tell me the truth... How—How bad is it...?"
"I won't lie to you Cyris...it's not good... that amulet is causing Rose and your unborn child pain. It's agonizing for them both when it's nearby. I know...I felt Rose's pain after she collapsed in the throne room," Polaris admitted.
I started panicking.
"This amulet user...they must be the traitor who helped Carson. And someone who is often around the Queen," I stated thoughtfully. "As soon as I get back, and of course after I spend time with Rosanna...we have to make a list. Every staff member, every guard, every guest that is and has been around her since this started."
"Of course... But Cyris...it's...it's getting more and more difficult to sustain their auras. I have to be honest with you. We need to find that amulet," Polaris told me.
"We will, I swear to you, this person will be found. And dealt with accordingly," I vowed.
"When we find the amulet, you'll need to destroy it immediately," he replied. Then he hesitated before speaking again. "Do you want to see her, Cyris? I'm hesitant to show you just how bad this has gotten...but...you should see..."
I was terrified. I didn't know what she was going to look like, but if it was worse than last night... I wasn't sure if I could handle that. Ultimately, my decision was to see her.
"Show her to me..." I said, my voice shaking as I spoke.
Polaris put the call on video and flipped the camera around so I could see what he saw. He was standing inside the closet that Rosanna and I shared. I could tell because I recognized a few clothing items of ours.
He went into the master suite and I saw Rosanna laying in our bed, sleeping. She was wrapped in blankets and looked deathly pale as she shivered and whimpered in her sleep. Her body was covered with sweat. She looked like she was in a lot of pain and seeing her that way shattered my heart. I needed to get back to her.
"Vasia..." I choked out.
Polaris slipped back into the closet so he wouldn't disturb Rosanna and flipped the camera around so I could see his face again. Then he turned to me.
"I've been sitting with her a lot during the day trying to sustain her aura...she's not getting any better, Cyris. If this goes on for much longer..." Polaris bit his lip. "Did Rose tell you the legend of the amulet?"
