Piarari Key

Vasia (vah-sia): snowflake

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Everything was hazy when I first opened my eyes. I felt the soft sheets of the bed in the master suite and noticed the sunlight pouring in through the windows and balcony doors. It took me a few moments to remember what had happened. The walk in the gardens...the assassin...the poison! I placed a hand on my stomach as my vision started becoming clearer. Was my baby okay?!

"Cyris?" I called out. I found Cyris sitting on the bed, on my right.

"I'm here, baby...I'm right here," he told me. He grabbed my hand, then used his other hand to brush hair from my face. His eyes looked puffy and red, like he hadn't gotten much sleep, or he had been crying...Or both.

"The baby...?" I asked, worried for our unborn child.

Cyris grinned and placed his free hand on the top of my belly gently.

"He is doing just fine, Vasia."

Cyris' words echoed in my head and it took me a minute to process what he'd said. The baby was fine and that sent relief coursing through my veins. But Cyris had said "he." He? I was... carrying a son. Tears of joy welled up in my eyes as I met Cyris' gaze.

"We're having a boy?" I inquired as the tears started to fall down my cheeks.

"Yes, we're having a son," he smiled.

I hadn't noticed them before, but I realized that we weren't alone in the master suite. Ren was smiling as he stood near the fireplace, while Farryn and Polaris stood near the door, their eyes full of joy. Sidra was sitting beside the bed on my left and she grasped my free hand.

I couldn't believe it. I rested my hand on my stomach, covering Cyris' hand. We were having a boy...a son... The Esporian castle was going to have a little Prince running around. But the smile on my face faded and I swallowed hard as I recalled the poison that had been in my body. "The poison... It didn't hurt him...did it?"

"No, My Queen, it didn't get that far. The doctor said that Cyris was just in time...if he had been any later...the baby could have been harmed," Sidra replied.

I felt a kick against my stomach and tears of relief streamed down my cheeks. My baby...my little warrior...my son was okay. I rubbed my belly and felt him kick again. I let out a sigh of relief. Then my thoughts shifted to the garden and I frowned. I'd been having such a nice time walking through Nerida's gardens with Cyris, but that all changed in a second when that arrow ended up in my shoulder.

"How's your shoulder?" Cyris asked. He kissed my forehead and eyelids before he pulled back. He gazed at me expectantly.

"It hurts a little, but it'll heal," I assured him. "Thank you, love. Thank you for being quick enough to save our son and me." Cyris had been so fast after I was struck by that arrow. He'd followed my directions exactly and brewed the cure I'd needed. I smiled. "I guess I don't owe you that potion brewing lesson anymore."

His eyes teared, as he kissed my stomach sweetly.

"I'm thankful my wife is knowledgeable. Though, I still want my lessons. I want to learn more."

Cyris bit his lip and sighed deeply. I could see that something was bothering him despite his joy in my safety, and our child's too.

"What's wrong?" I asked.
