Piarari Key
Vasia (vah-sia): snowflake~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The last four days had honestly been wonderful! Catching up with Kian was something I never thought I’d do in my lifetime. Hearing about the lives that Kian and Arissa had lived so far, stirred a lot of emotion within me. They basically grew up together, and they only had each other to rely on all these years.
Ever since she was stripped of her familiar powers, Arissa had been practicing healing with herbs. She was a healer now…but she also had some experience as a midwife too. So I felt the need to disclose my pregnancy to her. Naturally she was shocked, but she agreed to help me and keep my secret from Cyris and Kian. While I talked with Arissa, Kian and Cyris walked alongside each other awkwardly. More than anything, I wanted Cyris and Kian to get along, but it seemed like that was going to take some work. And I felt a little guilty that I had sort of neglected Cyris over the past few days, but we never talked about it.
As we reached Wintervale…something dawned on me. Were my parents and Mirella buried here?
“Felix?” I called out.
“Yes, Your Highness?” he replied.
“What happened to my parents and Mirella? I mean…were their bodies buried here in Wintervale?”
“I’d like to hope so, but the only way to know is if we go to the land set aside for Riofaltan Royalty—a burial plot for them.”
“May we go and look?” I asked, glancing at Cyris and Kian.
“Of course, Vasia,” Cyris answered. But Kian replied at the same time, “Yes.”
They frowned at each other, then looked away in the opposite direction. How mature. After a few moments, Kian spoke again.
“Vasia? What the hell does that mean?” he scoffed.
“It means Snowflake,” I replied with a blush.
Kian took a moment to process that. Then he turned to Cyris.
“How do you know my sister anyway?” he asked. “Espor isn’t exactly near Riofalt.”
“We met in Silverport…in Brales,” Cyris replied.
“And how long have you known her?” Kian pressed.
“It’s…it’s been a few months…maybe a bit longer.”
“Just a few months?” Kian questioned. I could tell he was totally unimpressed with the relationship timeline for Cyris and I.
“Why does that matter, Kian?” I asked. Why was my brother so adamant on interrogating the man I loved? I wasn’t a little girl. I could make my own choices.
Cyris and Kian glanced back at me, surprised I spoke up, and I looked back at Kian expectantly. I wanted an answer.
“Well?” I asked. “Why does it matter, Kian? And why all the questions? You haven’t exactly been nice to Cyris over the past few days.”
“It matters because I say so,” he huffed.
I looked at Arissa for some support, and she shook her head and rolled her eyes at Kian’s remark.
“Kian, cut it out!” Arissa ordered.
Kian sighed and fell silent. I glared at my brother before walking over to Cyris and giving his hand a reassuring squeeze. My brother was being a bit of a jerk to him. The man I loved didn’t deserve that. We all shuffled positions for a while, Kian slowed so he could walk with Arissa, while I stayed by Cyris and held his hand. Eventually, we stopped at the entrance to a cemetery. The air around us was chilling, and I heard the cold air blowing through the bushes.
