Even in a sound sleep, the echoes of Rosanna's cries reached me. When I woke up, her screams sounded even more heartbreaking. I threw the blanket on the couch and jumped up, worried that maybe someone broke in. The thought of something bad happening to her, made me angry and my power spiked. Once I reached her room, I looked around frantically, but no one was there. Rosanna was thrashing around in her bed, with sweat and tears streaming down her face.
She screamed again, and I realized she was having a nightmare. I laid next to her, covered myself up, and cradled her in my arms.
"Vasia, wake up," I whispered. She tried fighting me, her mind still in a dream state, but I held her closer and started stroking her hair. "Rosanna, I'm right here; you're just having a bad dream."
Her eyes flew open and she looked at me in surprise.
"Cyris," she breathed.
"Yes," I hummed, "You're safe."
"Cyris... we... we were in the clearing and... I froze you solid," she admitted in a quavering voice as she bit her lip. "I killed you. I froze you completely."
"I'm fine, Vasia, I'm right here holding you," I replied as I continued to stroke her hair.
She was silent for a moment and then she found her voice again. "I'm sorry I woke you."
"Shhh, just go back to sleep," I whispered.
She curled up against my body and closed her eyes. I felt her breathing slow as she drifted off to sleep again.
I couldn't protect her from her dreams, but I could protect her in reality, and that's what I planned to do. As long as I breathed, Rosanna Everly would be safe. As I kept stroking her hair, my breathing slowed to match hers; I was dozing off too.

I could see Rosanna. That heart stopping smile of hers, those brilliant green eyes that looked in my soul; she was the most amazing person I had ever met. But she looked different, dressed up? Her makeup was gorgeous, honestly, and the dress she wore... a wedding dress! We were getting married! My bride-to-be looked beyond beautiful-she was mind-blowing! I stood at the altar proudly, and watched as my Vasia came down the aisle.
All of our family and friends stood around us, genuinely happy for the union that was about to occur. All I could think about was how long I had waited to feel alive again, how much of an honour it will be to call Rosanna my wife.
The images blurred and flashed forward... Rosanna and I were in bed together, and she rested her head on my chest. We had just finished making love and were talking about our future...
