It had been two weeks, and things were back to how they used to be between Rosanna and me. She had forgiven me completely, and restored her trust in me. Knowing that gave me immense joy. I vowed to myself and to her that she would never go through something like that again. Now that things were right again, we decided that training was our top priority. We had to master being able to draw from each other without any complications, and so far, it wasn't going as well as we hoped. However, that didn't stop us from training, in fact it made us train even harder.
Even now we were out in the woods, trying to draw power from each other. We stood close together, trying to tap into each other's magic. She was holding my hand, with our fingers entwined. Now at least, I had control over my tether, so that was very helpful. I was no longer afraid to tap into all of my power around Rosanna, I was comfortable around her, and I knew I didn't have to hold back anymore. I felt her trying to reach my aura with her own, but she couldn't seem to get close enough.
"How are we supposed to do this?" she asked in frustration. She walked away and sat down underneath a nearby tree, having had enough.
"Hey, don't get upset, we'll get it," I replied.
"How?! Neither of us can get close enough to the aura of the other to draw from it."
"Don't get pissed when I say this, but...maybe the problem is that small part of darkness that resonates within my aura," I suggested and bit my lip.
"You and I both know that small dark blip in your aura is because of your blood ties to Circe." She crossed her arms over her chest. "It can't just be you."
Well, she was right, there had to be something else that we were or weren't doing. But what was it...?
Rosanna took a deep breath. "Maybe it's me," she reasoned.
I frowned, "What? There's no way it's you!"
"I let go with you, but I...I haven't mastered my tether." She bit her lip and looked away, ashamed. "I've been holding us back."
"Vasia, don't say that," I stated. I got closer before I sat down on my knees in front of her.
"Cyris...I don't know if I can let it break..." she admitted shakily. "There's...there are a lot of things tied to my tether that I don't let anyone see. There's a lot of fear."
"Rosanna, I'm not just anyone else...you don't have to be afraid with me, baby."
"If I let it break...the temperature is going to drop and I mean really drop. Like we're talking far below freezing. I...I don't know if your powers will protect you from that and I...I don't want you to get hypothermia."
"I understand, and I'm ready," I affirmed. I cupped her face in my hands, and planted a soft kiss on her lips. "We have to be able to do this together, no limits."
She stood up and nodded.
"Stand back, Cyris," she told me.
I did as I was told, but I refused to stand back too far. Rosanna needed to know I wasn't afraid of her or her power. She swallowed hard and her body shook as she willed her tether to break. Her eyes were glowing silver. But even though her eye colour changed, I could still see the emotion in them. Fear. And as the snow swirled violently around her, I knew... Her tether had snapped.
