Although I put on a facade for Polaris, I had to admit my heart sank once I heard that Slater wasn't chosen. It was more than the bet I made with Polaris, it was about having the honour of serving Cyris' kin. I wanted my son to be bound to a child of Cyris, as I'm sure Polaris wanted his child to be bound to the kin of Rosanna. However, the ceremony wasn't over yet, there was still the little Princess who needed to be bound. My Slater had a chance.

"Princess Catryn Ilaria Nerida Castellan, come forward my dear," the Priestess called out.

Catryn hesitated and looked at her father. "What if they don't like me?" Catryn asked. Her little voice was adorable and my heart melted. She was the sweetest little girl I'd ever seen. She had her father's hair colour, but her mother's eye colour and facial features.

"Of course they will! Who wouldn't like you? In fact, they will love you. Remember, there's nothing to be afraid of my little raindrop, just like Mommy said, we'll be right here," Cyris said to her tenderly.

The changeling children got excited again. They were all eager to see if they could be chosen for the Princess. Catryn walked forward towards the changeling children and stopped in the ritual circle. She stood in front of them and the changeling children all looked at her, whispering to each other. The Priestess quieted them and then spoke.

"Changelings, reach down to your cores, know that only the one who is truly compatible with the Princess will forge a bond with her. You'll know when it's formed," the Priestess stated. "May Allora and Nymus bless these changelings as they attempt to bond with Princess Catryn Ilaria Nerida Castellan."

The changeling children all closed their eyes and focused. They all started glowing different colours, displaying their powers. My son was surrounded by red light. And I watched in awe as a small cloud of red smoke swirled around Catryn's feet. She looked at it fearfully before glancing at Cyris nervously. He gave his daughter a reassuring smile and she turned her attention back to the changeling children. Then she started glowing red.

I couldn't believe my eyes at first. I turned to Idris and he was grinning widely. Catryn was glowing red, and red smoke had circled around her... She was drawn to our son. I started whooping and clapping, and Idris did the same. Now, all Catryn had to do was say his name.

"It's me?" Slater exclaimed as he whipped his tail happily. "It's me! Come on, come on...what's my name?"

"Slay-ter," Catryn said as she greeted Slater for the first time.

Slater knelt down and placed his little fist over his heart. "Catryn."

She said it...it was done! Slater was bound to the Princess! I admit, Catryn reminded me of Cyris, so it made sense for her to be bound to Slater. I faced my mate, and hugged him tightly.

"He's learned well, my lovely one," Idris told me. I kissed him tenderly, then placed my hand over his heart. My lovely one...the nickname that Idris had given me when we'd first met. He'd said it was because seeing me and spending time with me was like seeing the sun rise each morning, a lovely and gorgeous sight, just like me. And every time he said it, I was reminded just how much he loved me.

"He didn't get his charm from me," I blushed.

All of the other changeling children began to whine and complain. I can't say I felt bad, because I didn't. Our son had been blessed twice today, once by being bound to a magic user, and once for the fact that his magic user was of royal lineage. The Priestess had to quiet the changeling children down. Eventually, they left the altar, leaving Slater and Catryn to get acquainted.

Idris smiled at me and gently placed a hand on my stomach.

"Have you thought about what I said?" he asked tenderly. "Maybe not now...but someday? I won't let you suffer as you did before, my lovely one."

I bit my lip. I had thought about it. I thought about it everyday since he brought it up. And it terrified me. Could I truly handle going through something like that again? And what if I couldn't? But... what if I could handle it? We would have two wonderful children. Idris had given me everything I ever wanted. I placed my hand over his.

"I have thought about it. A lot...I've decided I do want to try again," I told him.

Idris kissed my temple and closed his eyes as he rested his forehead against mine.

"I will do everything in my power to ensure your safety, Farryn," he assured me. "You will not have to suffer as you did while carrying Slater. I won't let that happen again, I swear it."

"I can't wait," I sighed happily.

"Neither can I, my lovely one," Idris admitted.

I had gotten what I wanted. Slater was bound to Cyris' daughter, someone of the Castellan bloodline, and I was proud. I couldn't wait to see how their bond flourished as they grew up together, under safe and happy circumstances. I always wanted that for Cyris and me. Although we had a few amazing years, our childhood was interrupted. But now, with Slater and Catryn, they would get to have a better life. A life where they weren't constantly trying to fight for their lives. I was so elated and excited for what this future had in store for them.

And then there was Idris... To be honest I never thought I'd fall in love, but Idris had come into my life and made me feel complete. He hadn't abandoned me when I needed him most and he protected me. He even saved my life. He'd given me everything and I couldn't have been happier to be able to call myself his mate. I was looking forward to the rest of my life with him as we continued to build our future together.
