I really hated lying to Rosanna... And after everything we'd been through, I was lying to her again! It was like I hadn't learned my lesson the first time! But this time there was so much more to consider, wasn't there? Rosanna was carrying our child now, and the last thing I wanted was to stress her out in any way. I mean, I don't know anything about pregnancy, but I was pretty sure that stress was definitely not a good thing for a baby. I went up to my room to sleep, and for once I actually managed to stay asleep. There weren't any souls. After a few hours of peaceful sleep, I went outside and found Kian training.
"Kian...did you want a sparring partner?" I asked.
"Sure, if you think you can take it," he smirked.
"Bring it on," I challenged.
Kian lunged for me, and I blocked his movement effortlessly. Then I attempted a kick that he blocked with ease. We went back and forth like this for several minutes before I realized he wasn't even trying hard. Eventually, I staggered back as I heard a scream echoing in my ears. Pain shot through my body as I felt a soul pass through me. I gripped the trunk of a tree, trying to stay on my feet.
"Cyris!" Kian came over to me, and looked me over.
"I'm fine...it's nothing," I assured him as I let out a wince of pain.
"Cyris... Tell me what's going on." Kian insisted.
"I did this for her, Kian..." I admitted.
"Did what?"
"Nothing...it doesn't matter..."
"I think we should talk about it, Cyris..."
"What's there to talk about?" I snapped. "Rose is alive, that's all that matters right?"
"What happened?"
I sighed and ruffled my hair, truly against telling anyone about what happened at the temple. But no one was letting it go.
"The night Rose died...I went to Akodic's Temple...and successfully summoned him," I admitted.
"He...actually appeared for you?!" Kian asked in disbelief.
"He did. I...I begged him to save Rose...and he...offered me a deal..."
Kian looked wary. "What did he say?"
"He agreed to save Rose...if I became his servant...his pseudo gateway to beyond the veil," I confessed. "He said..." I trailed off as another wince of pain escaped my lips. The souls were relentless today. "...souls would pass through me to get beyond the veil."
"You-You didn't! Cyris, why?!"
"I couldn't let her go, Kian...I couldn't...I love her too much..." I admitted as I bit my lip. It was true. Imagining a life without Rosanna was like imagining a night sky without the moon and stars. It was dark and lonely. It was something I couldn't bear to think about.
"I love her too, Cyris...but...now you're tethered to the spirit of death!" Kian exclaimed.
I cringed in pain as another soul passed through me, and I cried out. I dropped to my knees, breathing heavily, and suddenly sweating a lot.
"I...I can handle this..."
Kian came closer. "Cyris..." Kian sighed. "You...you're in pain...and I don't think this is handling it."
