It had been three years since Rosanna gave birth to our twins, and it was a great three years. Watching our children grow up was even more wonderful than I imagined. Of course parenthood had its bad moments, but when things were great, they were...magical. I sounded so emotional, maybe I'd just matured...I wasn't sure. What I did know was that I loved my family... My wife, my children, my sister, my cousins...I loved them all, and I would die before I lost them.
Currently, I was in my study, looking after some paperwork. It had been a long day full of meetings and completing paperwork. But I'd been King for three years now and I was used to all these responsibilities, but that didn't mean I enjoyed them. At least not all the time. There was a knock on the door and Ren entered holding a tablet.
"Security report and the training logs," he stated as he held up the tablet. "I haven't seen them yet and figured we could go over them together." I nodded and Ren set the tablet down on the desk in front of me and we watched the recordings of the guards training. It was a mess. The new recruits were careless and a bit reckless and I watched in horror as they fired their crossbows haphazardly. By the time it was over, Ren was pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Who was in charge of training?" I asked.
"My Captain, Everett Lorcon," Ren replied. "Lieutenant General Redfield and I were arranging the posting logs for the week. And we figured the Captain could handle it on his own. Obviously we were wrong. I'm going to start having Lieutenant General Redfield supervise training. He's more experienced, so hopefully he'll be able to reign in these reckless recruits."
"Let's hope so," I agreed as my phone beeped. I glanced down at my phone and smiled when I saw my wife's name flash on screen with a text message. I opened the text message so I could read the whole thing.
Will you come to the master suite, love? I have a surprise for you.
My curiosity piqued. As far as I knew, there wasn't anything special about today. No birthdays or celebrations. So what kind of surprise was she talking about?
Ren noticed the shift in my attention and smiled.
"Rose?" he asked. I nodded. "We can pick this up later if you want to be with her. I need to discuss these logs with my Lieutenant General anyway."
I gave Ren a grateful smile before leaving the study and heading to the master suite to see what exactly my wife had in store.

Ientered to find Rosanna sitting on the love seat near the fireplace. She looked comfortable in her leggings and loose sweater and I noticed the book in her hands, her potion log. The little crease she had on her forehead as she wrote in her log was adorable. I hated to interrupt her, so I softly shut the door and approached her quietly, taking off my jacket as I did. I gently laid my jacket over the back of the couch and sat down next to her. Rosanna looked up and smiled when she saw me. I really had tried not to disturb her. She set her log book on the coffee table and I leaned over and kissed her forehead in greeting.
