I walked through the halls the next day, having spent the morning reading more about Espor's history. Sidra was at my side as always. And as the two of us walked through the halls, I heard a couple of the maids gossiping.

"The Queen is glowing, she must be carrying a son...a little Prince," one of the maids whispered excitedly.

"I'm sure the King will be pleased to have an heir," another maid agreed.

I frowned as I heard them, and thought about that vow I'd been forced to take at my coronation, promising to bear sons worthy of ruling Espor. I still hated that vow. Would it really be so bad if I gave birth to a daughter? Apparently it would be...at least in the eyes of the Esporians. I didn't care if I had a boy or a girl, I just wanted my baby to be healthy.

"What's the matter, My Queen?" Sidra asked, having noticed the expression on my face.

"Nothing...it's nothing," I assured her, pushing thoughts of that vow aside. "Where's Cyris? Is he still in the Council chamber?"

"Yes ma'am. Last I spoke with Ren, he said it should be another hour or so. The Council is very against leaving Circe alive."

Of course they were. The Council viewed Circe as a tyrant that needed to pay for her crimes through execution, but Cyris and I were against it. After all, we wanted to bring Circe back and eventually have her rejoin our family. But the Council didn't see it that way. Thinking that Cyris could use the support, I decided to head to the Council chamber and sit in on the meeting, while Sidra opted to use the time to complete some of her other duties.

As I entered the Council chamber, the Lords gasped and stood up, giving me a bit of respect. Well that was certainly unexpected. Granted, Cyris was present and he didn't take kindly to people disrespecting me, so they were probably doing that to stay on his good side. I looked at Cyris and noticed that there was no empty seat next to him for me. Ren seemed to notice and stood, gesturing for me to take his chair next to Cyris. I sat down and the Lords sat down as well.

"My Queen...forgive me, but what are you doing here? Typically the Queen doesn't enter the Council chamber," Lord Elric asked.

"I thought I'd sit in... I gather that this meeting concerns the fate of Circe Castellan and since I was involved in the war with her, I may be able to offer some insight into the matter," I explained.

The Lords all looked at Cyris.

"Proceed with the meeting," Cyris told them.

"But Your Majesty...women...don't have any business in this Chamber. The previous Queens never involved themselves in state matters. Your Queen should do well to remember the traditions of Espor and know her place," Lord Byron protested.
