It had been two weeks since I moved in with Rosanna and started training her. I had to admit, the more time I spent with her, the more I seemed to let my guard down. I still wasn't completely sure what it was about her, but Rosanna made me feel things I didn't know I could still feel. I found myself thinking about her more when she was around, and when she wasn't around it was like I needed to be around her.

I laid on the couch with my hands behind my head, and stared at the ceiling. Rosanna had work tonight so I spent most of the evening left alone to my own devices. Thinking of her was strangely putting me to sleep, but before I could doze off I heard someone moving around. I opened my eyes and saw a panicked Polaris standing over me.

"What? What's wrong?" I asked as I sat up.

"Something's come up and I can't meet Rose at work like I usually do."

"Okay," I replied

"I need to go back to my realm to take care of urgent business, and I don't want Rose out there alone this late," Polaris retorted.

"Okay...?"

He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, "Could you go and pick her up for me?"

"Oh! Uh, sure-yes! Of course," I stammered.

I grabbed my boots from their place by the front door, sat back down on the couch, and put them on. I felt Polaris watching me closely as I moved to put on my coat, then he continued to eye me as I zipped it up.

"Tell her I'm really sorry, and I'll make it up to her as soon as I can."

I nodded in confirmation, then Polaris and I left the apartment. He locked the door behind us, and disappeared in a flurry of snow.

I entered the Queen of Hearts to find Rosanna standing near the bar with a man. Nick, I think his name was. He was the same man that had taken over for Rosanna the night that I'd saved her. As I approached them I heard part of their conversation.

"At least let me walk you home," Nick insisted. "It's really late."

"That's really nice of you, Nick," Rosanna replied with a smile.

My hands shook as I watched her bestow that lovely smile on him. I stuck them in my pockets in hopes that they would stop trembling.

"It's the least I could do," Nick assured her. "Why our boss keeps scheduling you this late, I'll never know. It's not safe for you to walk home alone in the dark."
