~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
After spending the rest of the day planning for the Day of the Water Spirits celebration and meeting with the Council, I was exhausted. But unfortunately for me there was still paperwork to be done and on top of that I couldn't sleep. My unborn child was restless and kept kicking. So I was sitting at my desk in my study, doing the paperwork. If I couldn't sleep, then I could at least try and lessen my workload. The moon shone through the windows and the partial glass ceiling as I worked, giving me a bit more light in addition to my desk lamp.
There was a soft knock on the door and Sidra entered a few moments later. She approached my desk and noticed the look in my eyes. "Rosanna...you look tired...maybe you should get some sleep," she suggested.
"This paperwork isn't going to finish itself, Sidra," I stated.
"Is there any way I can help?"
"Not unless you can give me more hours in the day," I sighed. "Besides, it's not as if I'll be sleeping much anyway. This little warrior keeps kicking every time I try to sleep, but for some reason Cyris' voice seems to calm them down. But it's late...so unless you have a voice recording of Cyris' voice...I doubt I'll be sleeping any time soon. And I don't want to call and wake him. It's really late."
"Rose, just call him. You know he loves you, and he definitely wouldn't care that you called. Even if he was sleeping."
"I care though... His health is important to me. When we were together during the war, there was a period of time where he couldn't sleep and his health deteriorated. I don't want something like that to happen again," I admitted. I was, of course, referring to the time Cyris spent dealing with Akodic's curse, but Sidra didn't need to know the specifics of the situation.
Sidra took my phone from my hands, and went to the other side of the room. "True, but he'd never forgive me if he knew I'd let you spend all night doing paperwork in the study," she grinned.
"What are you doing?" I asked suspiciously.
Sidra put the phone on speaker and I heard it dialling a number. After a few rings, Cyris' tired voice filled my ears.
"Rose? Baby, what's wrong?"
"Actually it's Sidra, and apparently, your wife can't sleep because your child is keeping her up. So, she decided to spend the whole night in her study, doing paperwork. Talk to your wife, Cyris."
Sidra set the phone down on my desk and left the room quietly. I couldn't believe she'd done that. Cyris didn't need to be woken up for this.
"I'm sorry she woke you, love," I sighed.
"Babe? Why are you up?" he asked, his voice still groggy.
"Our little warrior is kicking and not letting me sleep," I explained. "So I decided to get some paperwork done. I told Sidra that your voice seems to calm our baby to sleep, but I didn't think she'd actually call you."
"Should I sing again?"
"Will you? I understand if you're too exhausted. My brother must be working you and your forces like crazy trying to rid Riofalt of any traces of the Trillium."
"The group of assailants weren't easy to catch, but we managed it, and Kian sentenced them to life in prison," Cyris assured me.
"And now that Riofalt is safe again, what have you all been up to?"
"Honestly, we've probably had too much fun..." he admitted.
"Really?" I asked. "I'm sorry I'm missing it, but I think it's better for me not to travel anymore while I'm carrying our little warrior."
"I can agree on that, but we do miss your presence. I have to tell you, Rose, your brother has great ideas for Riofalt. He and I have also decided to set up a trading system once he's ready for business."
"I'm glad to hear that the Trillium isn't threatening Riofalt anymore," I told him, "And I'm so happy that Kian is turning out to be such a good leader." I was pleased that he and Kian had resolved the issue and proud that Kian had grown into his role as King. I wished I'd been there to see it for myself, but I tried not to let that thought wander into my mind again.
We both fell silent for a moment and I decided to bring up the food I'd been craving over the past couple of days. "Will you bring me some of Arissa's lemon pastries when you return?" I requested. I'd been craving Arissa's homemade lemon pastries for a couple of days now. She'd brought some when she and Kian visited for the wedding and they were just divine.
"She's already ahead of you. She has a small basket all packed and ready. I was told I couldn't have any unless you said it was ok. But I'm okay with that. I'd rather our little warrior get big and strong," Cyris stated.
I felt a soft kick against my stomach. My child agreed with their father it seemed. They wanted to get stronger. "Apparently our little one agrees," I chuckled. "They've been quite fussy this evening, I'll admit, keeping me awake. I can't seem to sleep, love."
"Let me know when you're ready, and I'll sing the lullaby."
I turned off my desk lamp and picked up my phone before leaving my study and heading to the master suite. I crawled into bed and set the phone down on top of the sheets near my stomach. "I'm ready," I told my soulmate.
I heard his soothing voice sing that beautiful Piarari lullaby and our child finally settled down.
"Thank you, husband," I whispered softly. That lullaby had made me want to sleep as well. "I think I can sleep now."
"Your welcome, my beloved wife," he told me. "Sweet dreams, My Queen."
"Same to you, Siotas." I hung up and closed my eyes, drifting off into a peaceful slumber.
