It had been eight weeks; Cyris and I stood in front of the castle as a motorcade pulled up. I was overly excited for Kian and Arissa to arrive, it had been such a long time since I saw them. The driver opened the back door, and Arissa appeared first. Then moments later, my brother followed behind.
I grinned as I watched them take in the majesty of the Esporian castle. They'd been here before for the wedding, but I guess they were still in awe of this place. Then their eyes landed on me and Cyris.
"Kian!" I exclaimed as I rushed over to him as quickly as my pregnancy would allow.
I wrapped my arms around him, giving him a tight hug. I'd missed my brother a lot. Having him here in Espor meant a lot to me. Kian chuckled as he hugged me back. He kissed the top of my head and rubbed my upper back sweetly.
"I've missed you, big brother," I said softly.
"I've missed you too, little sister."
I let go of my brother and turned to Arissa.
"You look amazing," I told her with a smile. "Being Queen of Riofalt agrees with you."
Arissa jumped into my arms and squeezed me as tightly as she could.
"You look even better, sister," she told me. She pulled away from me and curtsied to Cyris. "Your Majesty."
Cyris laughed, then exchanged a hug with Arissa. Arissa stood by me as Kian and Cyris spoke together. Kian patted Cyris' shoulder before they shared a brotherly hug.
"It's great to see you again, brother," Cyris smiled.
"Likewise," Kian replied with a grin. "Espor looks beautiful. You and my sister have done well."
"Come inside, you both must be exhausted," I told them as a valet started unloading their bags. "How was your flight?"
The four of us made our way into the palace as we talked and laughed. We decided to go straight to the dining hall because Kian was complaining about his stomach.
The table in the dining hall was covered with a variety of sandwiches, salads, and bowls of hot soup. Unfortunately for me, one of the kinds of sandwiches present was tuna and the smell of tuna made me gag, a side effect of my pregnancy. I found myself getting nauseous as the smell drifted over to me.
"Excuse me...I just...I need a minute," I stated. I moved to exit the dining hall, but Cyris caught my wrist. I tried to breathe through my nausea.
"What is it? What's wrong?" he asked. Then he scanned the table and noticed the tuna sandwiches.
"It's fine, I just need a minute," I assured him. "The staff don't need to refrain from eating tuna on my account."
"True, but if no one is eating them, then I can have them removed from the table," Cyris offered.
"That'd be nice." I turned to Kian and Arrisa. "Sorry tuna just makes me nauseous," I told my brother and sister in law.
"I prefer ham anyway," Arissa beamed. Kian guiltily finished a tuna sandwich he had already picked up.
"Sorry..." he mumbled as he chewed.
I sighed.
"Not your fault," I assured my brother. "Eat. You both had a long journey. Try some of the soup. It's an old Esporian dish, something I've come to love."
