As Farryn flew us to the Temple, I could feel Rosanna's aura moving further away from mine.
"Baby...please...don't go," I pleaded as I held her body in my arms.
Her blood stained my clothes, but I could have cared less at that moment. I wanted her to come back. I needed her to come back. She couldn't die like this...not after everything we'd gone through to get to this point, not after finding out the truth about her past. She'd found her brother! She just couldn't die!
I wanted to build a future with her. I wanted a life with her.
I...I don't want to die, Cyris.
Her words replayed in my mind... I wouldn't let her go...she'd even told me she didn't want me to. But she was fading fast. There wasn't much time. I spotted the Temple up ahead. It was a massive stone structure and as Farryn landed, I noticed the path of torches that led up to the door. A large plaque hung above it that had some text written in Aezina, and underneath that was the English translation. "The Temple of Akodic'' it read.
Farryn landed and I got off her back. She shifted back to her human form and turned to me.
"Cyris...are you sure?" she asked.
I nodded and carried Rosanna towards the door. The torches lit up as I walked by them. The doors swung open as I reached them and I entered the inner chamber. I walked forward and the doors slammed shut behind me. The room was lined with stone pillars, and more torches that lit themselves as I walked by. In the centre of the far wall, was an altar with a large statue of a man carrying a staff. He wore a long robe and looked dangerous, but he was also my only chance at saving Rosanna. I needed his help and my desperation drove me towards him. I fell to my knees in front of Akodic's statue and hoped that somehow this would work.
"Please, help me," I pleaded. "I need to get my beloved back. Please."
To my utter shock the statue began glowing, and the stone melted away to reveal a man holding a staff. He looked at me curiously.
"Cyris Castellan," he mused. "The Prince of Espor. Rightful heir of the Esporian throne."
"Please, save my beloved Rosanna," I pleaded.
"You ask me to save your beloved, but which part of her should I save?" Akodic asked. "The part that is hers alone or the part that has melded with a part of you?"
I looked confused. What was he talking about? Was he talking about the bond I had with Rosanna through our ability to draw on each other? But I couldn't bring myself to ask him.
"Prince of Espor, have you noticed how your beloved has changed over the past few weeks?" Akodic asked.
I looked at Rosanna's lifeless body and didn't see any differences.
"It's not what you see, young Prince, it's what you physically feel," he told me. "Notice how her breasts are fuller than usual and feel how soft her body is."
Rosanna's breasts were fuller and her body was softer and I could feel it through her clothing. But why was that such a big deal?
"You left your beloved Riofaltan Princess pregnant," Akodic told me.
The blood in my veins turned to ice. Her last words echoed in my ears.
Cyris...I'm...
That's what she'd been trying to tell me before she died. That she was pregnant. It felt like I couldn't breathe, and I got a little dizzy.
