An hour later, Cyris and I entered the Council chamber. Megara was already there, sitting in the chair I used during Council meetings. The fact that she had the gall to sit in the Queen's chair, my chair, made my blood boil. I'd been right...she was going to seduce Cyris after she had me killed. She hadn't noticed us yet, so I decided it was time to announce our presence.
"The crow is an elegant creature, don't you think Megara?" I asked. I wanted to taunt her with the words her father had said to me before trying to kill me in this room and subtly calling her out on the crow tattoo the assassin had. I didn't even bother to admonish her for sitting in my chair. I wasn't going to call her out on that...yet.
Megara gasped, and fumbled to stand before she curtsied to us. Her eyes were big, clearly bewildered by my presence. She moved away from my chair slowly, trying to keep her composure, but it was in vain. Cyris remained quiet, allowing the scene to unfold.
"I'm sorry, My Queen... What did you say?" Megara uttered.
"Your family's symbol is a crow...and a crow is an elegant creature. No?" I asked.
"Yes, Your Majesty, I suppose it is."
"You seemed rather comfortable in my chair," I noted, maintaining my composure for now.
Megara didn't reply at first, and she averted her eyes. She cleared her throat, then looked back at me.
"Please accept my sincerest apologies, Your Majesty, I was only—"
"I would, if they were sincere," I interjected.
"Your Majesty?" Megara inquired. The more she played victim, the more I wanted to take her life, right then and there.
"It's very clear to me now where you stand, Megara," I informed her. "Your family chose a crow as their symbol. The crow is an omen...a sign of bad things to come...and it just so happens to be the symbol tattooed on the assassin sent to kill me and my unborn son!"
Megara's expression changed and she tensed. "My King, why did you summon me here?" she asked Cyris, panic in her voice.
"He didn't summon you here, you ignorant little tramp!" I growled. "I did. Or at least, I asked him to. How dare you?! How dare you sit in that chair?! How dare you send an assassin to murder me and the unborn heir to the throne of Espor?!"
Megara wouldn't give me her attention, she kept her eyes on Cyris. It's like she wanted me to end her.
"My King, what is the meaning of this?! I swear I'm not involved!" Megara insisted. "Tell her, please!"
"If you don't stop lying—" Cyris snapped. His eyes flickered to black.
"Cyris...remember what I said," I told him, reminding him what I wanted. I wanted to personally freeze her heart solid before shattering it.
"You're going to let her tell you what to do?! You're King, Cyris!" Megara shouted.
She called him by his first name...?! My eyes flashed silver and ice poured out of my body and crept towards Megara, threatening to freeze her. Cyris and I approached her.
"I'd be very careful about how you handle yourself from this moment onwards, Megara," I said menacingly. "If you want me dead so badly, come and face me. I'll gladly freeze your heart solid and shatter it for what you tried to do to my unborn son!"
