Happy Valentine's Day

I woke up trying not to wake Mer as I got out of bed. I went into the bathroom and checked my phone.

Group Message:

Me: Happy Valentines Day everybody!
Owen: you too! Everything is set up and ready for tonight.
Me: okay good
Alex: what time do you want us this morning?
Me: whenever you are ready.
Jackson: operation get the girls out of the house so we can decorate for tonight is ready to activate.
Alex: long ass name for no reason at all
Me: okay thanks jackson I guess
Jackson: there's a purpose Karev, there's always a purpose

I put my phone down and got my present ready. I got the kids up.

" Zola where is your present for mommy?"
" under my bed." She groaned rubbing her eyes.
" and where's..." She cut me off
" in the closet.." She pointed. She got up " when are they coming?" She asked
" soon. Go take a shower and get dressed."
" Bailey.Bailey.Bailey." I shook him awake. He just groaned.
"Derek Bailey Shepherd Get Up!" I yelled as I bounced on his bed sending him 5 feet in the air.
" I'm up." He groaned.
" mmm. What a pain a 4 year old can be."
" but not a 6 year old right daddy?"
" right princess. Help me with your sister?"
" okay." We got Olivia dressed.
There was a knock on the door.
"I'll get it!" Zola yelled
" Hey be careful!" I yelled back. I looked at Bailey. " go with your sister." He ran after her. Not soon later little footsteps came flying up the stairs.
"Daddy they're here!" Zola said
" who?"
" Umm.. Jackson and April and their baby."
" okay thanks sweetie. Here take your little sister."
I went downstairs.
" where's the wife?" Jackson asked as I shook his hand and gave him a hug.
" sleeping still. Watch this."
I whistled and the kids came running and stood at soldier position. Olivia was crawling and then sat on her bottom.
" go wake up your mother but be nice." They ran upstairs. Olivia was clapping. She was 2 now. They get so big so fast.
I picked her up.
" I'll take that." April said
I handed her my phone. She looked at it. Jackson was laughing.
" Derek...." She looked at me.
" oh this..." I pointed towards Olivia. " here take HER off my hands. And I'll take THAT THING off your hands."
We all laughed and I took my phone.
" That." I mocked
Somebody knocked on the door. Jackson went to get it.
" Wait no! April can you get THAT." I laughed. She glared at me as she opened the door. Owen and Amelia, Alex and Jo, Ben and Miranda, Mark, Richard, Callie and Arizona and the rest of the gang showed up. Mer came down the stairs.
" good morning...." She said walking over. I put my arms around her. " what's going on?" She asked
" it's Valentine's Day. We should all be together." Mark said. The girls all said something under their breath. We all laughed.
" alright alright Derek do you want to hand out the presents?" Alex asked
I went into the highest cabinet in the kitchen and took down the envelopes. I handed them out.
" okay open them." Jackson said
They opened them.
" Awww a Valentine's get-away afternoon." April chirped
" this was really sweet you guys thank you." Mer said giving me a kiss. " I love you." She whispered.
" I love you too." I kissed her hard.
" alright all girls out of the house go go go!" Owen laughed.
They left.
" so where do we start?" Alex asked.
Mark walked into my kitchen and opened the fridge.
" right here." He said putting the cases of beer on the counter.
" Umm guys the kids..." Owen said
" he's a new dad cut him a break." I nudged Mark. We all started to drink our beer.
" Owen put them in the bedroom and shut the door. Turn the tv on an they'll be fine." Jackson said
" are you sure?"
" yes."
" what room?"
" the first door on the left." I said
All the kids went into the room.
"ZOLA!" I yelled
" yes?"
" can you handle this?"
" yes."
" okay go have fun."
She ran off. The boys were drinking.
" so what do you think about this whole Valentine's Day thing?" Alex asked
" Karev it's a holiday." I said
" yeah but why treat your girl nice once a year?"
"Awwww!" Jackson said
" shut up!"
" Karev it's a holiday for girls to get what they want in case us guys forget something along the way."
" that's why we have calendars."
" yeah I'll remember that when you forget something".
" I have a secret to tell you."
" what?" Owen asked
He pulled out a ring.
" Awww Karev is all grown up." Jackson pinched his cheeks and he blushed. We looked at the ring.
" very nice Alex. Good job. Who helped?"
" Meredith."
" that's where she was last week?"
" yeah. She helped me. Today's the day."
" Mmhmm."
We went back to work. We were done an hour before the girls got home. They opened the door.
" oh my god..." They all said.
