A week later

I woke up and nudged meredith.

" Meredith come on we gotta get going plus Addison is leaving today."

" yes she is "

I turned her towards me and kissed her.

" come on get up."

I woke up Zola and got her ready. When we got to the hospital I took her to day care and got ready for my first surgery. After my surgery I got a 911 page from Meredith and I knew exactly what was happening. When I got to her room she was standing and yelling.

" ohh Meredith? How far along is the contractions?"

" every 2 minutes."

" okay breath in out in out you can do this."

When it was time to get into bed the doctor who was delivering our baby paused.

" what what's wrong?" I asked

" Meredith don't push I can feel your baby's face I need you to try your hardest not to push."

" what are you gonna do?" I asked

" I don't know."

" what do you mean I don't know."

" I don't exactly know what to do I've only been on my own for a week."

Without even thinking twice i yelled " GET ME ADDISON MONTGOMERY DONT LET HER LEAVE!"

As she walked into the room she had a smile on her face.

" well, Meredith are you ready to become a mom?"

" please Addison just so everything you can."

" don't worry I will do everything trust me." She looked at the other doctor " you can leave I don't need you here in fact you can go to the chief and explain what happened here I'm sure he'll be happy to know."

The doctor left.

" okay mer I'm gonna need to do a c-section. I know this may not be what you wanted but this is our only shot right now. I need a yes."

I looked at Meredith " yes go ahead Addison."

I walked towards her " don't mess this up Addison."

" Derek let me do my job."

I went back and held my wife's hand. When the baby was out there was relief but not for long.

" derek I don't hear crying why don't I hear crying?!"

" Addison what is going on?!"

She didn't answer me. "ADDISON!"

" derek go see what is going on."

I let go of my wife's hand which was heart breaking. I stared at my blue faced baby and saw Addison almost ready to throw up. I put a hand on her back while she was doing compressions and told a nurse to take over. I whispered to her.

" Addi, what happened? "

She had tears in her eyes " his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck. I'm so sorry Derek."

" no no no. Addison you will fix my baby you will help him because you are 2 board certified neo natal surgeon and I've heard one of the best. I know there has been rough times with us in the past but this is my baby this is my family. Remember when you brought your brother into the hospital and you asked me to be a god well now I'm asking you to be the god and save my baby. Please Addison just be peds God." I gave her a kiss on the forehead.

" okay ."

" okay?"

" okay." She started to tell the nurses what to do. I walked back to my wife.

" what happens now?"

" she's got it she's a peds God."

A couple minutes later crying filled the room and tears came to everybody's eyes. Addi called me over. When I got to her she handed me the baby and said.

" well daddy meet your beautiful baby boy."

" what what's the matter derek?" Mer asked nervously.

I walked toward her with our son in my arms.

" nothing. Nothing is the matter he's perfect. He's just perfect."

I handed her our baby and gave her a kiss. Addison put a hand on my shoulder. I turned around and gave her a kiss on the cheek and a hug.

" thank you Addison. Thank you for saving my son and my family. "

" your welcome Derek," she turned towards meredith as she was walking out the door " congratulations mommy he's beautiful."

" thank you Addison."

" wait Addi," I said walking out after her " I'm thinking about talking to the chief to letting you stay, permanently."

" Derek you don't have to."

" but I want to because if it weren't for you than I probably wouldn't be standing here with a smile on my face. I went back into the room and sat with mer for a while.

" what do you think about William?" I asked.

" I like Sebastian."

" Sebastian Shepherd don't you think that's a mouth full."

" what do you think about Bailey?"

" bailey?! I like it."

" then there it is Derek Bailey Shepherd."
