Hes moving on

A year later...
Addison decided to stay in Seattle. Her husband divorced her and they have partial custody of their son. She just couldn't part ways this time and glad she didn't.

" well Dr. Shepherd it's nice seeing you back on your feet." Jackson said
" good to be back. And thanks for everything."
" anything for you."
They shook hands. Derek was paged to the OR.
" Addison what's going on?" He asked getting ready
" the mom had a seizure mid delivery. I managed to get the baby out but we need you."
" okay I've got it from here how's the baby?"
" she's good. She's fine. She's healthy. The mom?"
" looks like a bleed. How big I don't know. Somebody get me an ultra sound so I can take a look."
" well?" She asked
" minor bleed shouldn't be any problems. Let's call Amy in anyway."

Amy walked in.
" what's the deal?" She asked
" minor bleed in the mom. Baby is getting checked out. You wanna help me with this?"
" I thought you said it was minor?"
" it is."
" then why do you need me?"
" respectively dr.shepherd I figured you'd wanna join me if not it's not a big deal."
" respectively dr.shepherd you can handle this one by yourself can't you?"
" of course I can I was just trying to get some bonding time in with my little sister."
" you should have just said that then."
" how's it going on here?" Addison asked
" all good. Amelia can close." Derek said and stood by Addison. They bumped hips and smiled at each other. Amelia closed the patient and they all scrubbed out.
" that was fun." Addison said
" yeah it was." Amelia said. Derek was standing there looking into the OR.
" Derek you okay?" Addison asked
" that's the OR I almost died in. That's the OR mer did die in. I think if I'm gonna be able to heal I need to get out of here. Start fresh. Something new. New memories."
" Derek you can't leave." Amelia said
" I can. My contract is almost up and you can take over my department...."
" stop Derek. This is insane. You can't run away again."
" I'm not. I'm moving on." And he walked out. He headed towards hunt's office.
" where's he going?" Jackson asked
" he's moving on." Addison said
" huh?" Alex asked
" he's leaving. He's quitting."
" what?! He can't!" Jo said.

Derek POV:

I walked into Hunt's office.
" can I help you shepherd?" He asked
" I'm handing in my resignation. Effective immediately." He looked surprise but got up and shook my hand with tears in his eyes.
" it was a pleasure working with you Derek. It was nice knowing you. Good luck with everything. Take care of yourself and the kids. Let us know if you need anything and there will always be a spot here for you if you decide to come back."
" thanks Owen take care." He hugged me and I walked out. I walked up to Callie.
" Derek..." She said
" goodbye Callie. Thank you for everything. Take care of yourself."
" be good Derek. Call us." She said hugging me tears in her eyes.
" Arizona. Take care. Thanks for everything."
" goodbye Derek this will always be your home."
" April thank you for everything I mean it. You're going far kiddo."
" goodbye dr. Shepherd take care."
" Jackson. take care of everyone. I'll see you around."
" shepherd it was good to know you. Take care of yourself and the kids."
" jo. Be good. "
" goodbye dr. Shepherd."
" Alex. I wanna thank you for everything you have done. For me, mer, the kids. Everybody. Take care of yourself and your family."
" take care of yourself Derek and the family. You can always come back. Call us as soon as you find your place."
" I will."
" Amelia. I love you and am so greatful you talked some sense into me. This is your department now. Good luck. You truly are my favorite sister."
" good luck Derek. I love you. You truly are my favorite brother."
" Addison good luck here. I'm so glad you came back. Good luck with everything."
" take care Derek we'll be here."
" Bailey. Thank you for everything you have done. Take care of yourself."
" you took Derek we'll miss you."
" chief. Thank you for everything. "
" take care of yourself Derek."
" I will."
The kids said their goodbyes as well.
" bye you guys. I love you all and I'll miss you."
" goodbye Derek we love you and we'll miss you."
That was it. He needed to move on. He walked out of that hospital and never turned back.

YEARS LATER....

Derek moved the family to Washington and found a job there. Amelia lives in the dream house with Owen and the kids. Everyone else is doing quite the same and are doing very well. Derek comes home for the holidays and summers and sometimes everybody flies there to see him. Addison stayed in Seattle and found a house to raise her son in. Turns out the carousel doesn't stop turning, you can't get off. You can build a house out of anything, make it as strong as you want. But a home... A home is more fragile than that. A home is made of the people you fill it with. And people can be broken, sure, but any surgeon knows, what's broken can be mended. What's hurt can be healed. And no matter how dark it gets, the Suns gonna rise again.
