Christmas Day Part 2

My pager went off.
" you paged?" I asked Wilson.
" dr. Shepherd yes happy holidays. We have a 8 year old who is having some headaches and could really need your help."
" okay let me see her."
She pulled me to the side and shut the curtains.
" Wilson what are you doing this isn't what we do time is precious here you know that."
Owen came up to me " no she's right you need to know what happened before you go in there and go all raging derek."
" raging derek? Anyway what happened?"
Meredith came up and held my hand with the rest of the guys following close behind. Meredith squeezed my hand.
" what's going on? Wilson talk." I said
" Anna May Sleeker 8 years old walked into her fathers living room where he was holding a Christmas party. Anna was told to stay in her room her father was drunk. He smashed a bottle over her head and made his dog bite Anna's head."
" what do you mean made him."
" he hit, tug and did everything he can to make slobber mad and he bit her."
" slobber?"
" his dog. A Great Dane."
" Wilson open the curtains."
" dr.shepherd..."
I pushed her away and opened the curtains to see a bloody 8 year old with a hole in her head. The father was sitting right there twirling his thumbs.
I ran over to him and punched him so hard I almost knocked him out.
" DEREK STOP DEREK!" Everyone was screaming. Owen, Jackson, and Mark were all restraining me.
" take a walk shepherd!"
" do you want me to come with?" Meredith asked.
" yes"
I saw Amy standing there.
" you're my sister you'd do exactly what I would do take over I'll be back in a few"
" okay." She whispered an put a hand on my shoulder as she went towards the patient.
We went to an on call room.
" do you want to talk about it?" Mer asked
" WHO ON EARTH DOES THAT TO THEIR CHILD! WHO SITS THERE AND WATCHES THEIR DOG ALMOST KILL THEIR CHILD!" I had tears in my eyes.
" I know I know derek but you're the best NEURO surgeon around and she needs you."
" where's the mom?"
" divorced. She's on her way with her husband."
I walked back to the ER her father and police were standing there.
" dr. Shepherd." The police sheriff said shaking my hand.
" sheriff how are ya? Wife? Kids?"
" good thank you yours?"
" excellent thank you."
" how many you got now?"
" 2 a boy and a girl you and your family should stop by for Christmas dinner."
" will do."
The drunken father came at me and I almost hit him again.
" I WANT THIS DRUNKEN S.O.B. OUT OF MY ER NOW!" I yelled. The sheriff removed him from the ER.
" you are under arrest for attempted homicide of your 8 year old daughter Anna May Sleeker...."
" DADDY!" She yelled.
" sweetie it's okay your daddy can't hurt you anymore." I said
The mother came in " Anna oh my god!"
I pulled her to the side.
" I know this looks bad I'll be honest it is bad. But I'm the best your gonna get. This place is the best. I'm gonna take care of your daughter so go see her and then I need to get ready for surgery."
" yes thank you Dr.Shepherd."
" please call me Derek."
I did multiple tests and brought her to the OR. Everyone was in the OR with me keeping me calm as I began the surgery. Callie looked at me.
" say it." She said
" you gotta say it derek." Everyone said
" it's a beautiful day to save lives." I smiled at them and her.
" I love you. I believe you can save this little girl derek. We are all here for you." Meredith said.
" thanks guys lets do this."
