Trying to understand.

" Derek?" Amelia knocked on the door.
" not in the mood Amelia." I said but she came in anyway.
" what did I just say?"
" I'm your little sister I don't listen." She said crawling up on the bed next to me.
" I love you Derek."
" I love you too kiddo."
" then let me be happy."
" nobody's stopping you."
" you singled out Owen tonight."
" he did the same to me."
" I know and I'm sorry. But I called him and he's on his way back to apologize so come out, please. Try to understand I love him." She pouted.
" I'm trying."
" so will you come out?"
" fine."
" thank you."
We walked out.
" hey you okay?" Mer asked
" yeah I'm fine." She wrapped her arms around me and then the door opened.
" guys I am so incredibly sorry. I am really. I'm so sorry Derek." He said coming towards me. Amelia stopped him.
" wait." She said.
" fine. But I'm telling you now I will never live the fact that I hurt people that night. I am still paying the price and I will never be able to say enough sorrys. I know I did something wrong but like I said I will never live it down. I'm sorry."
" derek I didn't mean it like that."
" but you did. And you're right. But like I said I couldn't be any sorrier than I am."
" it's okay."
" no it's not. But you two. You being together. It is okay."
" you sure?"
" absolutely." He gave me a hug.
" you gotta let that go Derek."
" mmhmm."
Everyone stayed for a little while and then they left.
" ready for bed?" Mer asked
" yeah. Come on."
I got woken up at 6 in the morning by the sound of our pagers going off.
" 911. From Hunt it's probably nothing." Mer said.
Then our pagers would not stop beeping.
" or it could be something." I said and we got out of bed. We headed to the ER.
" DEREK!" Owen yelled. He was crying.
" Owen what's wrong?" I asked. He couldn't speak.
" Owen!" I yelled.
" Shepherd umm.." Jackson said.
" I got it. Mer go with them." Mark said.
" what's going on?" I asked
" it's Amy."
" what about her?"
" she got hit by a car."
" wait what?! What do you mean got hit by a car?!" I practically yelled. I looked at Owen.
" what the hell happened here!"
" we crossed the street but I tried to pull her out of the way but it was too late."
" oh my god!" I ran to the trauma room door.

MEREDITH POV:

I opened the door.
" oh my god." Was all I could get out.
" Mer we could use your help." Alex said.
" MER!" Jackson yelled and I snapped out of it.
" what happened?" I asked
" she got hit by a car crossing the street."
" where's the other guy?"
" jail. Speeding". Alex said.
" okay I need scans to see what's going on internally."
" we got a problem though." April said.
" what"
" we don't have a Neuro surgeon." Alex said.
" how bad is it?"
" brain bleed." April said.
" we need Derek."
" no we can't it's his sister Mer." Jackson said. The door opened and Addison came in. Through the crack of the door I saw Derek trying to look in.
" what can I do?" Addison asked.
" we need a neuro surgeon." Alex said
" we can't. The best are these two and one of them is on the table." I said
" and the other one is a bubble of tears. He's too much of a mess to do this." Addison said. Amelia started to flatline.
Owen walked in.
" oh my god..." He started to cry.
" get him out of here!" Jackson yelled.
" owen get out!" Alex yelled.
" Owen you need to leave. You can't be here you are too close to this. You need to go. go sit with Derek. Go now!" I said
" but I love her save her!"
" we'll do our best we all love her now go." I pushed him out.
" charge the paddles to 360. Clear!" Jackson yelled as he put the paddles to her chest. But nothing.
" 400. Clear!" But still nothing.
" 500. Clear!" Heartbeat. Everyone signed in relief.
" let's get her to the OR and take it from there. We can't wait any longer." I said as we wheeled her down.
