Chapter 143

It was 2:59 PM and Luke and Ashton were still arguing. I looked at Calum and Calum looked at me. We decided to sneak away. We went to the kitchen and Calum said to me, "So, Nicole. I've been thinking lately and I think you should start a career in singing." I was shocked. Where did this come from? I widened my eyes.

Nicole: Why in singing?

Calum: Well because you're really good.

Nicole: Pffft! You're kidding.

Calum: But I'm not. You really are good.

Nicole: Calum, I get you're trying to be nice and everything and I appreciate the compliments, but its not working.

Calum: What's not working?

Nicole: I bet you management just wanted you to convince me into being a singer. I'm not going to though.

Calum: Nicole, I swear. Management didn't tell me anything.

Nicole: Mmm...

Calum: You do trust me, right?

Nicole: Okay, I trust you. But I don't see my benefit in becoming a singer.

Calum: Well... Wow. I guess you're right. I mean, I can think of all the reasons why I like being a singer but you don't seem to appeal to those benefits.

Nicole: Sorry.

Calum: Don't apologize. I'm not making you. But have you decided what you do wanna be when you grow up?

Nicole: Well.... No.

Calum: Thats okay. But you should probably think fast. You are getting older, Nicole.

Nicole: I know, I know. But I'm still 12.

Calum: Yeah, but next thing you know you're going to be 13 in October, then 14, then 15, then 16, then 17, then 18, then --

Nicole: Calum, you have nothing to worry about. My future is going to be fine. Don't think about the future. Think about the present.

Calum: Yes, okay. I will.

Just at that moment, Ashton came into the kitchen yelling back at Luke, "Don't even talk to me, dude!" We looked at Ashton and he said, "You know what? I'm in the mood to go out."

Calum: Go out where?

Ash: I don't know. Just out to lunch.

Calum: But we already had lunch.

Ash: I'm a hungry boy.

Calum: Well, why don't you take Nicole with you?

Nicole: Huh?

Ash: Yeah, why not? Nicole, do you wanna go out to lunch with me?

I know it sounded weird but it didn't seem like Ashton noticed. It was like he was actually asking me out. But I know he's just wanting to hang out with me. I responded to Ashton, "Uhh, sure."

Ash: Great! Go put on something nice and I'll be waiting.

Nicole: What, this isn't nice enough for you?

Ash: No, it's beautiful. But I think you should wear something a bit more, hmm, fancy.

This felt so weird.

Nicole: I don't think I have anything fancy.

Ash: Oh, trust me. I've seen your wardrobe. It's honestly like Fancy Narnia.

Nicole: *sighs*

I went upstairs to my room to put on something fancy from Fancy Narnia and when I found something, I didn't even know I had it. (Picture on first page). I put it on and did everything to look pretty and then I went downstairs. I glanced at the time and it was 3:04. I wasn't really hungry but I couldn't say no to Ashton's offer. Ashton was wearing a nice hat. It was actually quite stylish. I went downstairs and Ashton said, "See? You are fancy." I rolled my eyes and we left. We went to East Side Mario's. We got our menus after we got to our table and Ashton looked at the menu. I noticed people were staring. I whispered to Ashton, "Ash, I'm not so comfortable. People are staring." Without taking his eyes off the menu, he said, "Don't worry, Nicole. It's all in your head. You're just not used to showing your beauty out in public."

Nicole: Huh?

Ash: I just mean you're not the outside kind of person so you aren't used to everybody staring at your gorgeous self.

Nicole: Thanks, Ash, but people don't seem to be staring at my gorgeous self. I think something's wrong.

Ash: *looks up from menu* Like what?

Nicole: Maybe there's something on my clothes.

Ash: Here, stand up.

Nicole: *stands up*

Ash: *looks all over Nicole* I don't see anything. No rips or stains or anything like that. Nicole, it's all in your head. Forget them. *sits down*

Nicole: *sits down and sighs*

After ordering our food, I still felt like people were watching me. It creeped me out so much. Ash continuously asked me if I was okay and I always answered with 'I'm fine' because I knew he wouldn't believe me that everyone was staring at me in a creepy way. When we were leaving the restaurant, people were STILL staring. I couldn't wait to get out of that building. We got in the car and drove back home. Oh, but don't worry. I had a wonderful time with Ashton while there. Aside from the creepy stares, Ashton and I had some deep conversations, funny conversations, and random conversations. I laughed quite a lot while I was there. It was amazing. When we got home, I noticed Luke was in the kitchen and Calum wasn't. I knew immediately Luke and Ashton were going to start fighting again. But surprisingly they didn't... right away. They had a nice conversation at first.

Luke: Did you guys have fun at lunch?

Ash: Yeah, we had lots of fun. Nicole was a little uncomfortable though because she thought everyone was staring at her.

Luke: Well that's because Nicole's not a very outside type of person so she's not used to people staring at her gorgeous self.

Ash: That's what I said.

Luke: Well great minds think alike.

Ash: You got that right?

Luke: I mean, both me and Mariah were probably thinking of ways to hurt you. Now that's a good mind.
