THE NEXT MORNING
6:08 AM

I woke up to Luke slightly shaking me. I was facing the window and I saw it was really early. Well, for me. I don't wake up very early. I groaned and said, "Why are you waking me up so early?" Then Luke responded, "Remember? You have school today." OH. EM. GEE. I totally forgot! I got up out of bed and yelled to Luke, "Out of my way!" I ran to the washroom and did everything in there. When I got out, Ash came up to me and said, "Nicole, it's 6:13. You have time to relax. Eat some breakfast." I then responded, "I will eat breakfast. Just wait for me to get dressed." I went to my room and shut the door as I changed into a simple outfit. I didn't wanna spend too much time worrying about it. Then I looked in the mirror and did a quick criteria check.

Now that I'm pretty much ready, I can go downstairs and eat my breakfast. I saw Calum making pancakes and he asked me if I wanted one. Of course I said yes because, I mean, who wouldn't want pancakes? Pancakes are just... pancakes. Anyway, I ate my pancakes and it was 6:20. I asked Luke, "What time do I have to go again?" He then responded, "8:00." I groaned and said, "Ugh. Next time wake me up at 7:30." He laughed and said okay. I had noticed that nobody was worrying about anything that had happened yesterday. It was like it never happened. But you know, the past is behind us. We should worry about the present. I decided to watch some TV until Ash walked up to me and sat down next to me on the couch. "So are you ready for school?" He asked me. I said to him, "Yes, I am. I can't wait." But that was only part of me. The other part of me was scared of who I was going to meet there. I noticed Calum hadn't been talking to me often until he came into the living room and finally said something. "Nicole, I want you to have something," he said to me. I was confused but excited. "Ooh, what is it?" I said excitedly with a smile on my face and my eyes practically shooting out of my head. At that moment, Ash sighed sadly and walked out of the room. Calum looked down, as if he couldn't look at my face. As if it was too much for him to look at. My smile faded. He seemed extremely sad, almost as if he was about to cry.

CALUM'S POV

After yesterday, I hadn't been so happy about Nicole going to school. I mean, I'm not going to be there to protect her. Think of all she's gone through with that son of a bitch, Carson. She's gone through a lot and still manages to keep a smile on her face. I mean, I saw how excited she was when she heard I was going to give her something. The poor thing.

NICOLE'S POV

As a frown formed on my face, Calum handed me something from his pocket. I took what he gave me. It was a keychain. A keychain... with a can of pepper spray hanging on it. "Calum, what is this?"

Calum: It's pepper spray, Nicole.

Nicole: No, I don't mean what is this. *gestures to the can* I mean what is this? *gestures to Calum* I'm fine and I don't need this stupid can.

Calum: Yes, you do. I want you to keep it with you at all times, even at home. Keep it on your pants and know that you have to use it if you are being... attacked, okay?

Nicole: Calum, I --

Calum: Please, Nicole. Do it for me.

Nicole: ...

Calum: ...

Nicole: *sighs* Okay. I'll keep it.

Calum: Thank you, Nicole. Don't let go of it.

Nicole: I got it.

Calum walked up to his room. I thought, okay. Maybe this can be a good idea. If someone touches me in any way, I can protect myself. I mean, I hope so. As time passed, it was time for me to go. Luke, Ash, and Calum said goodbye as I walked outside to the bus stop and when the bus came, I got as I waited for Jessica to get on the bus.
