Forget and Forgotten

Hyunjin was pacing around his apartment, swearing that he was forgetting something but he couldn't pinpoint it. He had the contents of his bag laid out on the bed and organized, having gone through them three times so far hoping to catch a clue on what he's missing but never identifying it.

He's got a week's worth of clothes, his tooth brush, toothpaste, shower products, hair products, socks, two pairs of shoes, and a nicer outfit just in case. Knowing his mother, they would be attending church on Christmas Eve. He had not practiced any religion in a long time, but if he was going to have to go, he at least wanted to make sure not to stand out like a sore thumb.

He even packed his exploring sketch book and pencils. The same ones that he took to the beach, noticeable by the stray grains of sand that were still present inside the pencil case that he didn't have the heart to remove.

Despite being more packed than he was when he moved across the world, Hyunjin knew something was missing. It wasn't until his phone buzzed from the counter that he realized what it was... rather, who it was. His heart skipped a beat as he paced over to it and turned it the right side up.

His heart dropped when he saw that it was an email rather than a message. He wished that it was the freckled Angel... To be able to somehow make it right. But he had said all he could. Notoriously, he was bad at goodbyes when it came to Felix.

Hyunjin opened up the email and managed a slight smile.

Hyunjin,

I must say I'm surprised to get an inquiry from you after how our last session ended. Normally, since it has been such a long time, I would be hesitant. But, if you are truly prepared to participate, I'll make an exception.

Here is the link to schedule an appointment. Link.

Dr. Kim.

"Impeccable timing as always, Seungmin." Hyunjin chuckled to himself as he waited for the link to load. Much to his surprise, there was a fateful opening during the next week. This was an opportunity that he was not going to pass up. "Let's see if you are still so desperate for me to go, mom."

He looked at his phone in contemplation, his finger hovering over the chat labeled "MY ANGEL". He groaned in frustration that he wasn't 'man enough' to face him. Sure, there were a million reasons he could list as to why it was a bad idea to text. But, there was one thing that somehow stood out against them all. The picture in his mind that the last interaction he had with Felix, was the disappointed tone of voice and the image of him crying.

He couldn't help himself. He had to say his peace before leaving.

                            MY ANGEL

ME:
I miss you..
I'm really sorry, Angel.
I promise I'll be back for the showcase.
Please let me steal you away to explain..

Hyunjin's heart still felt heavy, but he got that off of his chest. Finally, he was able to pack up the bag and set it by the door, ready to go for tomorrow morning. His nerves were absolutely shot, and he didn't know if this was even a good idea to begin with, but he couldn't live with the idea of not knowing.

After tossing and turning for at least twenty minutes, the artist gave up on trying to sleep. Normally, he would get up and paint to relax himself. However, even as he looked at the canvas, his mind was blank. There was nothing he envisioned, nothing he was drawn to.

With a huff, Hyunjin grabbed his phone and squinted his eyes painfully at the sudden bright light. He opened up his picture gallery and sighed, his eyes landing on the beach pictures. He shrugged and tortured himself looking through them, pushing down the dull ache the memories brought out.
