Hyunjin pouted sadly on the couch looking at the little curled up chihuahua in his lap.

"You know... you could stay longer.." his mom mused hopefully.

Hyunjin smiled softly and pet the warm fluff ball gently, trying not to wake him. "I really need to get back... I have some explaining to do.." He pursed his lips with a slight cringe.

"Explaining?" His mom asked in confusion.

Hyunjin sighed at the realization that he told his dad about his dilemma and not his mom. "I kind of left without saying goodbye.."

"Why?" His mom asked with furrowed brows.

"Again, you send me a letter after five years with no context and ask me to come home.. I didn't know what to think." Hyunjin huffed with a shrug of the shoulders.

"Heh... right." His mom cringed with an apologetic look. "You never actually explained everything... is he your... boyfriend?" She asked hesitantly with a slightly uncomfortable tone.

Hyunjin glared at her initially but sighed. He could tell she was trying and it didn't sound judgemental.. just seemed like she didn't know how to handle everything.

"No.. his circumstances were... complicated.. when we met." Hyunjin tried to explain vaguely.

His mom looked at him with a mixture of concern and discomfort. "What does that mean..?"

"He was still in a long term relationship when we met.." Hyunjin started, trying to reassure his mom with his eyes when she glared at the confession. "Nothing happened while they were together." He urged.

His mom squinted her eyes suspiciously but nodded for him to go on.

"They ended up breaking up.." the artist continued until he earned another glare. "... which had nothing to do with me." He reassured. "Both Felix and Wo- his boyfriend said that it was over a long time ago.. but it was a really messy breakup. Felix and I grew closer but he wasn't ready to jump into anything, for obvious reasons. So no.. he isn't my boyfriend." He finished with disappointment laced in his voice.

His mom rubbed his shoulder comfortingly. "I think that's very mature of you.." she cooed. "You never make it easy for yourself, do you?" She teased lightly with a pinch to the cheek.

Hyunjin scoffed with a soft smile. "When I said it wasn't a choice, I meant it." He chuckled painfully. "But he really is someone special, mom. I was helpless from the second he opened the door."

His mom tilted her head and furrowed her brows. "How did you guys meet again? I don't think you ever told me."

Hyunjin chuckled nervously and rubbed the back of his neck with his hand as he cringed his face. "Uh... heh." He mumbled. "I met him through Wooyoung.." He admitted.

His mom smiled in realization, giving the artist pause. "Ah! That's right! I forgot Wooyoung went to school in that area. Is that why you chose to go there?"

Hyunjin let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding. "Partly, yeah. It was also just far enough away to not-"

"Run into us?" His mom finished with pursed lips.

Hyunjin shrugged. "Yeah.." He admitted awkwardly.

Khami woke up and stirred lightly in the artist's lap before snuggling deeper and pressing his body down with a huff, making both Hyunjin and his mom coo.

"I'm gonna miss him.." Hyunjin pouted.

"I know baby.." she mused sympathetically. "But you can.. and should... come visit us!" Her expression brightened. "You can bring Fel-"
