"How much further back are we talking..?" Felix scrunched his brows which a slight chuckle.
"What was your childhood like?" The therapist shrugged, figuring she would catch on to whatever was needed.
"Uh.. I mean it was fine." Felix shrugged in response. "We were really close as a family. I have an older brother who drives me crazy and tends to be over protective, as most big brothers tend to be. I also had my best friend, Jisung. we have been connected at the hip basically since we were in diapers. Our dads were good friends from college. " He chuckled, although his expression dropped before he sighed, preparing himself for the digging. "When I was thirteen my dad passed away in a car accident on his way home from work..."
Roseanne raised her brow in surprise but didn't comment, wanting to see what Felix would say about it without prodding.
"My mom tried to stop things from changing after that, but there is nothing you can do to patch the hole left by the death of a loved one." He smiled sadly. "Come to think of it.. that's when Jisung became almost as protective of me as my brother. It all happened in the middle of the school year, so as soon as I returned.. as middle schoolers do, people talked." He chuckled painfully. "I remember Jisung would always glare at people who tried to mention him at all, even to say how 'sorry they were for my loss'." He rolled his eyes and scoffed in irony. "What thirteen year old says that?"
The therapist smiled softly in sympathy. "Sounds like Jisung never got out of that habit?" She asked with an endearing tone.
Felix's smile returned genuinely. He truly did love Jisung with all his heart. "I guess not, no. When the news of my dad passing kind of died down, I had to deal with budding sexuality crises. Jisung has been there through it all.. he has always been the moat stopping the outside world from attacking my castle when I needed to hide... which happened often. My brother too, but he was more of the border patrol.. he never let anyone close enough to me to even try. Talk about a guy who takes the shotgun joke a little too far." He joked to try and lighten the mood.
Roseanne's smiled slightly in amusement. "You got some real fighters in your corner." She praised. "You said one of your goals was to learn to prevent battles and fight them on your own so your loved ones didn't worry as much... it sounds to me like they did it without being asked, though." She observed. "Do you feel guilty for that?"
Felix sighed in contemplation. "I mean.. yeah." He shrugged. "Minho has taken it upon himself to be everything that dad should have been able to be. I have seen him literally ask dad for guidance on 'how to handle me'." He quoted specifically with an ironic scoff. "It's kind of hard not to feel like a fetus that's a burden when your brother becomes your parent."
The flashes of the night he was playing around with Hyunjin popped into his head, painting a soft and loving smile on his face. He missed the artist. He knew Hyunjin said that it wouldn't have to change... outside of the obvious, of course. But, the smallest moments make him miss him.
"You smiled.." the therapist pointed out sweetly, the sympathetic tone replaced with a glimmer of pride.
"Hm.." Felix hummed in agreement, the smile not diminishing a bit. "There have been times where Minho asked dad for help with me, specifically, that weren't all bad." The soft smile faded slightly to an annoyed one. "Well, until he ruined it by being as assh-" he stopped and corrected himself. "-meany."
Roseanne chuckled softly in endearment at the return of the shy boy she met at the beginning. "You can say whatever you want, Felix." She reassured. "I've heard the whole vocabulary, believe me."
Felix giggled softly in return and nodded.
"You said that you hid away a lot.. that's why Jisung and Minho were so intent on protecting you. Do you feel like you still do?" The therapist followed up.
