Hyunjin looked at the little piece of paper in his hands and took his phone out of his pocket. He wasn't here to have some half assed family reunion where he is the star of the show... but there was one person that he wouldn't mind seeing. At this point, he really needed to see Yeji if he had any hopes of making it through the next couple of days.
Although his mom had backed off on the relationship discussion, he could still feel the eyes burning through the side of his face any time he had his phone out. He felt like a teenager again that was trying to hide a secret relationship from their parent. The only difference this time though, besides the fact that he was twenty five at this point, was that he wasn't even messaging Felix when he was on it. Not that he didn't want to.. but after yesterday he didn't want to push his luck. He promised to call the freckled Angel tonight. That would decide what happens next with them.
The line rang a couple of times before it connected.
"Hello?" The sweet and familiar voice of his cousin sounded out. Despite the fact that the voice had deepened some since the last time he heard it, it sent a warm feeling through his body. With his parents he just felt nervous at this point. But not Yeji.. she was a safe person.
"Yej?" Hyunjin asked out excitedly.
"Yes... who is this?" She followed up suspiciously.
"You forgot about your all time favorite cousin?" The artist gasped dramatically.
"No... Jinnie?!" Yeji almost squealed over the phone.
"The one and only." Hyunjin chuckled back with a smirk.
"I'll be damned. I thought you fell off the face of the earth." She laughed. "To what do I owe this pleasure?"
"Mom lured me back-"
"You're home?!" Yeji interrupted as rustling sounds started in the background.
"Home is reaching a bit." Hyunjin chuckled sarcastically. "But yes, I'm at my parent's.." He followed up suspiciously.
"Don't die on me Jinnie! I'm on my way!" Yeji pleaded dramatically.
Hyunjin chuckled lightly and shook his head in amusement until he heard the sound of a car starting. He furrowed his brows in surprise. "Are you seriously coming over here?!"
"Of course I am! I haven't seen you in years and you are probably the only sane person left in this family! I have to save you from the delulus." She huffed in exaggeration.
"Glad to know you are just as dramatic as always, Yej." Hyunjin rolled his eyes with an amused laugh. He couldn't lie and say he wasn't grateful though, it would be nice to see someone besides his prying parents and the guy he is paying to deep clean his brain of all the gunk left behind.
"I'll be there in fifteen. Better be ready, I'm sorry but I'm not getting pulled into the house and ambushed if you're not ready." Yeji threatened seriously.
"Wait... fift-" Hyunjin furrowed his brow in confusion but couldn't even get the words out before the call ended. He was not about to question a thing, though, and grabbed the necessities before making his way down the stairs.
"Where are you headed?" His mom asked curiously from the couch seeing that her son was wearing a jacket and had his keys in hand.
"I come and go as I please, remember?" Hyunjin reminded with a raised brow.
His mom held her hands up in defense. "I was just trying to make friendly conversation, Jinnie." She mused.
"Hm." Hyunjin hummed in false belief. "I'm going out with Yeji."
