Chapter 24 - "Competition..."
Clara's PoV
'Does this mean I can't go?' Avia pouted as she was sat at the kitchen table - thermometer in her ear.
'You shouldn't really. You'll have to stay here with Lilly, Ollie and Poppy' John hummed sad that he she have to miss the competition. She would have to pull out.
It wasn't a big one and didn't even count for a whole lot but it would set her some points back which meant that Evie could and probably would overtake her on the results table.
Her and Evie were so close on the leaderboard and get so competitive with each other that on riding days they generally don't say much to each other.
It didn't really help when Evie came down the stairs in all her gear. The most impressive of all being the new jacket she had to buy with "Evelyn" scripted on the back in glitter silver print. Avia had the same and was so looking forward to wearing it.
'But that's not fair. Evie gets to go' she scoffed as Evie came down the stairs suited and booted for the afternoon.
It was fricken mid October so it wasn't really my kind of thing - but they were excited and I would just have to stand in a muddy field with all my winter layers on and support her.
'She's no longer infectious. Her spots are crusting over. There's nothing I can do for you Avia. It would be irresponsible of me to let you go' John tried to make her understand.
'Pft. It's not fair' she yelled storming up the stairs.
'Someday when you have kids you'll understand the risks' John yelled after her as the bedroom door slammed shut.
'Leave her John. She'll calm down. It is what it is'
'The wrong kids are getting it. Why hasn't he got them yet?' John scoffed.
'What is the big deal about him getting them? If he doesn't he doesn't. Why are you so stressed?' I scoffed, trying to wrap my arms around his chest to understand.
'Because I didn't get them until I was 21 and we all know how badly they affected me. I just want him to get them now' John growled annoyed.

'Evie stop. Stop kicking the hay. Your being ridiculous' John yelled as she kicked the hay in the stables.
She was not happy.
Horse riding was the one thing she was good at and she couldn't even do that.
'Your one point ahead of Avia. That's what you wanted right?'
'No I wanted to be ahead of Avia but I only cane third. Third is ribbishN
-Evie has equestrian competition and it becomes a comp between John and Richard over her
-Evie bonds with John on the stable afterwards where she came third - she's disappointed.
