Chapter 126 - "Secrets..."

Clara's PoV

'Please?' John begged as he stood at the main reception. 'She would want to wake up knowing that our baby is okay. I just need reassurance' John begged.

'It's not exactly customary Mr Smith'

'I pay a lot of money for medical bills these days - I just want to know that my baby is okay. I know my wife will be okay but my baby has to be as well. We've lost a baby before and it was the hardest time of our lives. Our daughter has just finished and been though cancer treatment this is the last bit of shit we wand' John begged.

'Okay. Okay. Fine' Alex said giving in.

She had been the midwife for Poppy and even the midwife for Henry and Lissy. She of all people knew all the crap and all the shit that they had been through together as a couple so she would do any favour John asked.

'I have to talk to her consultant first but I can't see why not' she said rolling her eyes.

'I felt the baby move last night. I didn't even know it was kicking. Clara never said. But then we've just hit the 21 week boundary which is where we got to with Lissy. That's why I want to know. It's like it's not meant to be' John pouted.

'Of you felt he baby kick last night then you know it's okay?' She smirked.

'I just need assurance that's all. Clara has monthly ultrasounds booked for the next few months but I just have to know right now' he said as the two of them watched Clara sleep.

They were due to bring her round from sedation tomorrow.

They just wanted her ribs to heal a little and keep the pain to a minimum which is going to be the main problem for Clara.

Avia had come out of this the worst with a fractured foot so was on crutches for the next few weeks.

He felt like he had just got one child out of a cast and another one was put in one.

Clara had broken 4 ribs out of 8 which wasn't good especially if the baby was kicking now because it's squashing up to her organs it is. But pain meds are very limited when your pregnant.

'So what we hoping for this time? A girl or a boy?' Alex laughed as she moved the scanner around Clara's stomach

'Either as long as it's healthy and arrives fairly close to it's due date. None of our babies have been on time and if quite like to experience it' John smiled watching the little nugget moving on the scanner screen.

'Well the latter is definitely a big possibility' she hummed with a smile.

John didn't pay any attention to what was being said before until he snapped his head up at Alex.

'Did you just tell me the gender?'

'Umm no' she backtracked taking a note and went to escape. 'Did you not want to know?' She said embarrassed.

'Clara wanted the surprise. I didn't much. But if do anything to make her happy. Don't tell her I know' John begged.

'I won't. As long as you promise not to tell her that I slipped it out' she mumbled handing John the scans.

'Deal'

'And the baby is okay?' Richard asked knowing that he could breathe easy just a little bit as the pair of them were re inflating he blow up bed.

It had seemed to have been a very good purchase.

Poppy spent the first few days back at home properly on a blow up bed in John and Clara's room because she was being sick all the time and didn't want to be alone.

They had also had it up in the lounge for a while for the pair whilst Poppy was in the lounge.

They even used it once when Evie had a fit and Clara slept on Evie's room to make sure she didn't have another one unaccompanied during the night.

Now the pair were re inflating it so that Avia could sleep on it in the lounge for a few days whilst she gets used to the crutches.

2 flights of stairs was quite a lot of stairs for someone who didn't and had never used crutches before now.

'The baby is fine. Clara will be glad to know that the little nugget is okay. I seriously thought that this was it. That I was going to relive it all over again and loose the two most important things in the world to me.

'Your not going to relive it. Clara's strong'

'So was Lucie'

'It's not going to happen again' Richards assured as Poppy came running in the room and jumped onto John's back kicking him like a horse.

'Hello Mrs Monkey woman. How can I help?' John laughed.

'When can I go back and see the horsies? I want to ride buttercup again. Evie said that I could' she said with sad fluttering eyes and battered eyelids.

'Soon monkey. Maybe once avia has fixed her leg?' John suggested.

'How long will that take?'

'Hmm... 3 weeks?'

'Okay' she shrugged not sure at all on her sense of time.

John couldn't wait to get the little monkey back in school. Thankfully she started again next month. They decided they would wait until after May half term where she would be completely ready.

In the mean time John has hired someone to come in and do some basic maths and reading with her every day just so that she can catch up a little bit.

He was so glad she had missed reception and not year 1 or 2 like Evie.

It's so much easier to catch up at four rather than six years old.

'When's Mummy coming home?' Poppy then asked clinging to John's neck still like a monkey whilst Richard finished all the hard work so she could jump on if.

'Soon'
