Chapter 66 - "Wasps..."

Clara's PoV

'Daddy. Henry is being weird again' Evie yelled as Henry was jumping up and down on the sofa playing superheroes with his cape. He was dressed as superman this time.

'Hey there superman. Want a ride?' John smirked.

'Yeah. Yeah. Then superman can fly' he hummed excitedly jumping on John's back and clinging to his neck before John ran him around the living room.

'Daddy I miss Avia' Evie said knowing now that she was stuck with the little ones on her own.

What didn't help was that Avia was away and Poppy was in bed which meant that all that Evie had to play with was two three year old boys.

''She'll be back Monday. Why don't you ask your Dad to take you to the stables?' John suggested as that was usually the only thing that keeps Evie happy and occupied.

'Can't you take me?'

'Not really. I have to watch these two monkeys - and Poppy is in bed. I'll give Richard a ring if you want to go?'

'Please?' she sighed running up the stairs to find some of her riding gear.

'Ugh. Okay. I'll see if one of the neighbours can just come over and watch these two for half an hour while I drop you off' John tutted.

'Daddy down' Henry said wriggling of John's back and onto the sofa.

'What's up buddy?'

'Itchy' he said unhappily and in a grump as John pulled the cape off of his neck and widened his eyes.

'What the hell happened here?' John said running a thumb over the infected area and lifted Ollie quickly onto the worktop in the kitchen. 'Have you been stung? Since when did we get wasps in December?' John scoffed.

'Itchy' Henry repeated as John sifted around for some tweezers and tried to remove the sting but it was pretty deep now. It could have been hours a go when he actually got stung. 'Daddy stop' Henry cried lashing out at John but John knew if he didn't get it out - it would most likely get worse.

'Stay still buddy' John scoffed as he analysed the rash and figured perhaps he was having a reaction to the sting.

That just about screwed his day up didn't it? Because now he had to take Henry to a Doctor.

'That's not fair. You said Richard would take me to the stables?' Evie cried with snot and tears like a small child. You wouldn't have known she was 9.

'Change of plans I'm afraid. You'll have to stay here with grandad' John hummed, as he sifted henry into his coat and did up his trainers.

'Why can't grandad take me?' She sniffed.

'Because grandad had to watch Poppy as well. She's not well. You as her big sister should be looking after her' John scoffed.

'It's always about them. Never about me' Evie huffed, storming up the stairs and was undoubtably calling Richard.

'Are you sure your okay to watch Ollie as well?' John said a bit concerned about having to leave them with Clara's dad.

'We'll be fine I'm sure' he said rolling his eyes. 'Just go and look after Henry' Dave instructed.

'Well little buddy. Looks like we've got a long wait ahead of us' John sighed.

He might have private healthcare but even a last minute appointment is a long wait.

Henry wasn't overly bothered though. He loved getting to spend time with John on his own. He's started to realise that John is his only parent.

He's never outright asked about Lucie - but John had explained it to him and occasionally Henry will say that Lucie in heaven or something. So he understood.

'Henry Smith. How can I help you?' A lovely lady Doctor asked.

'I think he's been stung by a wasp but I'm pretty sure the sting has buried itself' John hummed, as the nurse looked at Henry's neck.

'I agree. I'll have to drain the venom out and remove the sting. It won't be very comfortable for him. And it might hurt?' She said as Henry was sat comfortably on John's lap and playing with one of the trains from the waiting room.

'You'd better just do it' John sighed.

It wasn't a very nice thing to watch. As soon as Henry realised what was happening the poor two year old lashed out and started kicking up a fuss.

I'm the end John had to forcibly hold him down on the table so that the nurse could do the job and find the sting - which she did and patched him up.

In the end it left Henry in a state and fell asleep in John's arms pretty much straight afterwards crying himself to sleep.

'Take the course of antibiotics for a week and it should clear up. It's inevitable that these things happen but he is most likely allergic to them. Just keep watch in case it happens again - so you can get the sting out quicker next time '

'Will do' John said taking the prescription and all of Henry's layers as he carried him out and towards he pharmacy.

He gave Clara a quick text to update her on the situation and then noted the few missed calls he had from Richard.

'Sup dude?'

'Where are ya? Evie said something about the Doctors?'

'Henry got stung by a wasp and we couldn't find the sting. Poor little dude is sound asleep on my shoulder right now' John sighed. 'Did you pick Ollie up?'

'Yeah. Clara's Dad let me take him - then I dropped Evie at the stables. Is that okay? You'll probably have to go and get her now' Richard suggested.

'Yeah I'll head her way as soon as I've finished here' John shrugged to himself.

'Your getting good' John yelled as he approached the fence of the stables.

Evie spotted John and slowed lavender up before going to the fence still on her back. 'I'm not ready'

'You'll have to be ready because I'm not coming back later and it's getting dark' John said just checking Henry was okay in the car but he had one of the stables staff just keeping an eye on the car.

'It's always about then' she scoffed jealously.
