Chapter 85 - "More of an Emergency..."

Clara's PoV

'Come on Poppy. Let's get you in the bath now. You really need a clean' I laughed as she stood on the bed and I removed her top.

I'm always conscious of her being sick or something being wrong so when I caught the sound of wheezing from her chest I had to say that I was more than a little nervous.

We were flying home this evening at half 8 and I wanted her to be all clean and smelling lovely before she got on a plane.

Plus it would be more comfortable for her.

We were due to check out of the hotel at 12 but I didn't want to go without maybe seeing a pharmacist?

I figured I would just bath her and make her take some of her inhaler first to see what happens.

Before I knew it we were all checked out of the hotel and had all the bags in hand.

I literally left Poppy alone for five minutes sitting on one of the sofas in the reception area whilst I checked out at the desk when I turned to see there was someone talking to her.

'Excuse me. What do you think your doing? That's my daughter' I growled seeing Poppy gasping for breath and actually starting to turn a little blue. 'Poppy? Poppy are you okay?' I asked as I yelled for help.

Thankfully the hotel were on it and had called an ambulance within minutes whilst they had a team here at the hotel to help her out for the moment temporarily.

- - -

It's alright duckling. Your going to be okay' I said stroking her forehead as there was staff around the hotel helping out and medical staff had been informed.

It was all a bit of a whirl wind really because she had just collapsed gasping for air. I knew she was sick but not this sick.

We had dropped the others off at the airport with John so they could fly to Chicago and the worst part about all of this was not only did not have his support right now but I might have to ring him now and explain that something awful has happened.

'How old is she?' The paramedic Jack asked as he checked her vitals and place them placed an oxygen mask over her mouth in attempt to help her break a little more deeply which it did.

'4' I explained. 'Umm she does have leukaemia' I admitted making him nod his head.

'Treatment?'

'She has had a couple of bouts of chemo but she bad the big ones coming up in the new year. We have medical insurance but I think you should ring our doctors for more information. I don't know a whole lot about it' I mumbled.

'It looks to me like she may need a blood transfusion. If she's been ill then her body won't have been reproducing fresh and healthy blood cells quickly enough' he explained but it was all mumble mumble to me. I just wanted her to be okay.

It also made me look like an idiot. When your the mother of the child who is sick you should know every single detail of what's going on but because you spend all your time worrying about the child in question - you can't help but forget these things and only worry about them without knowing the details.

They let me travel with them in the ambulance thankfully since I explained that we were technically tourists and had no idea about the area but he could probably tell that by the British accents.

The paperwork at the hospital was the worst because Poppy was rushed away from me into the kids emergency room for treatments whilst I was left on my own to fill out all these complicated forms.

If John was here - being half American he would know exactly what he was doing. What made all the forms and things far worse and much more difficult was that I wasn't sure what passport to use.

When we travel we don't travel with one passport each now - we always bring their European passports with us as well in case we need them.

So in this case which bloody passport do I use?

- - -

'Is she fit to travel?' I asked panicked, as she was literally inhaling so deeply into the mask she had been handed that was in the shape of a dinosaur.

'Not really no. But you need to get back to the Uk. That is understandable. She can't have treatment here. We know nothing about her. We'll treat the pneumonia and see if we can get you guys on a plane' he explained.

'But not tonight?'

'No. Shes not fit to travel' he hummed.

'No. I didn't think so' I mumbled. 'What's the treatment?'

'I need to run a few more tests but she is okay for now. She has the mask and is undergoing a temporary nebuliser treatment which is helping her to breathe. We'll access the situation far more in a few hours. We've also started a blood transfusion up which will take at least 24 hours. My advice however would be finding somewhere else to stay for a few days'

I sighed reluctantly and left the room looking at the phone for quite some time, glaring at a text from John.

"Had a good day today. Haven't heard from you? Are you at the airport?'

Well I had to pull the plaster off at some point so sighed and went for it.

'John?'

'Clara? You at the airport? Is the plane delayed or something? I thought I would have heard from you by now?' He hummed obviously doing something else at the same time.

'No John. I'm at the hospital' I said as I heard the sound of a bottle dropping and evidently crashing on the floor.

- - -

'Hospital?' He choked - me now being his full attention. 'Hospital in London right? Oh for fucks sake who am I kidding! Is she alright?'

'Not really. She collapsed. She couldn't breathe. We had such an amazing day that something bad just had to happen' I groaned.

'No this is my karma. I'm the one that went away. I'm the one that left you two alone' he said sadly.

'Nothing can be done now John. But she's not fit for travel tonight' I sighed.

'I need to get to you' he said.

'There's no point' I said. 'I do however need you to do me a favour and find me a hotel to stay in for a few nights. I've not got enough money on my card after Disney and checked out of the last one' I begged.

'I'll transfer some money' he said. 'And I'll find you somewhere to stay. Don't panic' he said hoping for me to calm down.
