Chapter 15- "Grooming..."
Clara's PoV
'Come on Poppy. Just 1 tiny little snip?' I begged as we were sat in the hairdressers.
She hadn't had a haircut since she was two, and even that was just to trim the edges. Since then for the last two and a half years we've just been letting it grow out. It looks better that way.
'No. I don't want it cutted. I want to be a mermaid' she mumbled into my neck.
'If you don't get your hair cut then I'm not letting you get get your nails done' I said with folded arms. But let's be honest... She knew I was bluffing. 'You won't get to have pretty colours on your nails like your sisters' I explained.
'Why can't she just leave it long? I like her hair long?' Avia scoffed.
'Because it needs cutting. They won't take that much hair off I promise' I said trying to get her out of my grip.
'You know Poppy... It won't grow if you don't get it cut. It'll stay short because it's not looked after properly' Avia commented trying to help me out.
It was nice that she tried but I just couldn't be bothered with the argument.
'Fine. If you don't want it cut - look shabby for the rest of your life. I don't care' I hummed getting in the chair then so that I could have my hair cut.
It was kind of like the pre wedding grooming day. These are all the things I didn't get to do when I last got married because it was a cheap little day that came out of the blue.
I never had bridesmaids or kids the last time I got married and wanted to make this a day to remember.
It wasn't however me or Avia that persuaded her to get in the chair - it was the fact that after Avia had, had some of her hair snipped - she got given some jelly bean sweets. Evidently Poppy was jealous as she jumped up and then asked for a jelly bean as she tried to brush her own hair.
The hairdressers had a right little giggle at that one.
'Mummy when's Evie getting here?' Avia asked as I knew she texted Evie.
I don't know why she bothered asking me when she knew that she would get her answer in a minute anyway.
'Just go and choose your nail colour yeah?' I said rolling my eyes as she bounced out of the chair and started analysing the colours on the side to choose from.

'Evie isn't coming' Avia hummed as she jumped back onto the chair next to me, and handed the nice lady the pink colour that she had chosen.
I could see another lady helping Poppy to choose a colour so that it wouldn't be so bright but to be honest for someone with OCD - I wasn't worried about the nail colour matching the dress. As long as she was somewhat happy I didn't really care.
'What do you mean she's not coming?'
'She said that uncle Richard has taken her shopping and that she doesn't need her hair cut anyway' Avia said as she showed me the text and I growled.
If I hadn't had wet nail polish on my hands then I would have rang that man right now.
'Now you know why I made him move out' lilly said rolling her eyes.
'Not helping' I snapped, as she dialled the number and handed the phone to me before sitting down to get her own nails done. Just for reference - John had the boys.
'Whoa. Stop getting shouty at me' Richard scoffed down the phone. 'You never told me anything about any stupid hair appointment'
'Yes I did. 10th of October. Hair appointments and nail appointments for all girls. You promised me that Evie would be here' I growled.
'Well she says now she doesn't want to come anyway' Richard said no doubt rolling his eyes in annoyance that I was ruining his Saturday afternoon.
'Put her on the phone. Now' I hissed.
'Mummy I don't need my haircut. Avia said all your doing is getting your nails painted' Evie whined.
'Evie this was important to me. Your not going to be a bridesmaid if you carry on like this. I want you to come here right now' I demanded but I knew that she was paying no attention.
'But me and Dad are shopping' she whined.
'Are you trying to punish me now? Why won't you just come and get your nails painted with everyone else? It's like you don't even want to be apart of this wedding'
'I don't. I don't want you to marry Daddy. He's stupid and does nothing but pick on me' she scoffed down the phone and hung up.
That response left me feeling a little winded.
'She doesn't mean anything she's saying Clara' lilly said trying to make me feel better but I wasn't so sure anymore. I'm sure she knew what she was doing and she sounded serious to me. Even if she was only 9.
'That child is in so much trouble' I growled. 'And as for your so called husband - me and him are not going to get along if he carries on like this'
'Hey. Your telling me. That's why he lives in his own place' she said rolling her eyes.
- - -
'She said what?'
'She said she doesn't want me to marry you anyway and that she doesn't want to be apart of the wedding' I hummed, as John ran a hand through my hair whilst we sat on the sofa.
'She doesn't mean if'
'Oh I think she does'
'God. When did we get so outnumbered and start letting the kids rule our lives?' He joked but something about that sentence was true.
'Huh?'
'Well you know there is 4 against two. Ifs a slight imbalance' he laughed.
'No. Your right. When did they start ruling our lives? Especially Evie? I'm her mother and she should be listening to me not him' I scoffed sitting up and storming out of the room.
