Chapter 32 - "Wedding from the Past...?"

Clara's PoV

'Well don't you two look so cute' John smirked pulling on their chubby cheeks to embarrass them.

John had just about managed to pull himself from the bed this morning. Generally when he has a panic moment he doesn't get out of the bed for a good 24 hours.

But at least today he had a reason to get out of bed. He could just imagine Clara panicking about it already.

Clara knows him inside out - so John knows, that Clara knows that it would be a struggle this morning.

'They do look awesome don't they?' Richard chuckled straightening their ties.

The theme was a moave/purple colour - and so their little ties were purple to match the bridesmaid dresses.

Their waistcoats were silver with a black suit and cute little black shoes. They looked so grown up and smart.

'Now. Do you remember what we told you boys. You can both come into the church with us. And we'll carry you until Clara and your sisters come in... but then you have to sit with Lilly nicely' John explained again crouched down.

'Mummy Clara will look pity' Henry says excited to see Clara.

It always amazed John how easily Henry took to Clara. Had Lucie been alive John was sure it would be completely different. He probably wouldn't even be marrying Clara today.

There's another reason for him to feel guilty and for his anxieties to play up.

Just looking outside at the guests arriving was enough to calm him down.

'Daddy I'm hungry' Henry whined.

'Nope, nope, nopety nope nope. No eating until after the wedding and no drinks unless it's through a straw and I hold the drink. Mummy Clara's orders' John said adamantly with a smirk.

'But I'm hungry' he whined again, as John rolled his eyes and handed him a plain digestive biscuit.

'How much trouble can you get in with that' he mumbled.

'Mummy. This dress is itchy' Poppy complained.

'Good. It's not a wedding without being extremely uncomfortable ' I pointed out as my hair was just being finished and the curls were resting on my shoulders.

I was sweating buckets if I was completely honest. I was panicking after the previous night that John wasn't going to turn up.

He was a real mess and when he's a mess he gets really deflated and pessimistic. Plus the fact that remarrying me would be guilt for him especially since he was technically classed as a widow.

When we went to get the marriage licence obviously the people in the office were very judgemental with the whole thing but then John had to claim being widowed and that deflated him and made him feel guilty.

This wasn't the first panic he had, had in the last few weeks leading up to the wedding.

I didn't want him to get anxious about marrying and run away or not turn up. Because in front of our kids that would just be awful for me and for them. That's why the main wedding party wasn't that many.

I was pretty sure that he wouldn't be able to get married in front of lots of people again because it ours just make him feel so guilty.

'Are you nervous Mummy?' Poppy asked as I handed her, her basket of flowers.

'No. I've married Daddy before remember. Before you were born' I chuckled in a lie. 'Now come on. Let's see what your sisters are up to?' I hummed wandering next door to Lilly's room to see that there was some sort of three way salon going on.

They were all dressed and ready to go - with Evie stealing some of Lilly's lip gloss whilst she wasn't looking and Avia helping Lilly to do up her heels.

Both Evie and Avia were excited that I had allowed them to wear high heels for the wedding.

Not supper high just average height. But they were excited all the same. Same goes for the make up and lipgloss.

They were like adult girls this time.

'Why aren't you in your dress?' Lilly scoffed.

'Because I need some help. I can't get in it on my own' I smirked rolling my eyes.

'Thankfully you won't be getting out of it on your own' she winked.

'Good God is that my mother?' John uttered as he straightened Henry's very cute little bow tie and took his hand leading him towards where Richard was.

'Daddy's Mummy' he grinned so John picked him up and rested him on his hip, and standing with Richard who had Ollie on his hip in a matching suit.

'Yeah. I don't know why she's here' John scoffed but politely so the almost three year old didn't understand he was being rude. 'That's my Mum' John said motioning his head forward. 'Who on earth gave her an invite?'

'That was me' David said appearing out of nowhere.

'What?'

'It was me who gave her an invite I have to admit... And it was kind of an accident'

'Who's that?'

'Her new boyfriend'

'God he looks younger than me' John said rolling his eyes. 'Why did you invite her?'

'She umm... She visited from Boston a few weeks back and asked herself to stay in September which just happened to coincide with your wedding...'

'For gods sake' John scoffed.

'For gods sake' Henry giggled from John's hip and started playing with John's bow tie.

'Oi. You can't say that' John mumbled, but couldn't help how adorably cute it was that he had said it.

'Oi' Henry repeated having got to the age of repeating.

At very nearly three years old he had picked up the habit that Ollie had just recently acquired as well. They were repeating everything that anyone said and if tended to get on Evie's nerves the most.

'She can't stay. She isn't staying' John scoffed rudely crossing the room but was caught by Poppy who was crying in a state. 'What's wrong munchkin?' He asked crouching down to see the 4 year old in question crying.

'Avia ruined my pretty dress. Mummy will be angry' Poppy cried as she pointed to the small stain that was at the top of Poppy's dress and John nervously looked up.

He knew just how uptight Clara had been about organising all of this day.
