Chapter 76 - "Suitcase Mix Up..."

Clara's PoV

'Are you going to ignore for the entire flight? Because 10 hours is a long time for your wife to ignore you'

'You bloody deserve it that's why' I said arms folded and glared straight at the TV.

'I need a wee Mummy Clara' Henry said pulling on my shirt because I had ended up somehow sitting next to the most fidgety kid in the world.

Evie and Avia were next to each other, and because Poppy wanted to sit next to John we all know who I ended up with.

'Ask your Dad. He's doing all toilet breaks' I scoffed unbuckling him as John rolled his eyes but pushed his way out of the seat.

- - -

I was in the bathroom taking a wee when there was a lot of shaking.

And before you panic - there was no plane crashes. Although that would have been pretty dramatic.

Either way it was a little scary with the walls shaking whilst your trying to poop - but I hurried myself because I heard the seatbelt sign came on.

I trundles out of the bathroom and sat down quickly making sure mine and Henrys seat belts were securely in place.

When of course you hear the captains voice during flight you know something has gone wrong then there had been some kind of bad news because otherwise you didn't hear from them until half an hour before landing.

'Sorry to disturb your flight we've come into some turbulence. I also hate to inform you that due to extreme weather at our destination we won't be able to land there this evening. We will however not turn around and will continue over the Atlantic and into the United States. Our current destination is now LAX - we will of course let you know any further details'

'California? Are they joking?' I growled.

'It's fine. We'll just drive up from there. Hire a car and drive to Chicago'

'John of the planes can't land then I highly doubt you'll be getting a car through the blizzard' I scoffed.

'We'll think of something I'm sure' he said assuringly.

Suddenly the fact that he had forgotten Evie's passport was the last thing on my mind. Now all I was thinking was where the hell are we going to sleep when we get to La?

'Does this mean we get to go to the Hollywood sign?' Avia said having always wanted to do that.

'No. we won't have time for that. We'll have a quick sleep and then hit the road for Chicago'

'John? Your not thinking this through at all. First up when we land its Christmas Eve. Not only is it Christmas eve it will be your sons 3rd birthday. The last thing he wants to do is sit in a car all day? I'm not travelling in Christmas day in the car for hours and I'm pretty sure Poppy couldn't. You need to think practically here' I said carefully.

I knew how much he wanted to get there and I really didn't want to see the disappointment on his face but we couldn't just not think of these things.

'What do you suggest then?' He scoffed.

'I say we touch base. We grab a hotel in LA for a few days and spend Christmas. That will give enough time for the storm to potentially pass and for us to then get on a flight to Chicago on like the 27th or something? Boxing Day at the earliest?'

'Bit then that's not Christmas in Chicago is it?'

'Well then maybe it's just not meant to be John. We can't just land and star driving. The kids will want to sleep and eat and so will you. This flight will now be 11 hours instead of 10. You have to think of that'

- - -

'Come on Clara I said a million times I was sorry. It was no picnic for me either. We had to drive all the way to Richards and we had to get fast tracked through security, that really was embarrassing'

'Oh well poor you. I'm sorry you didn't have to wait in the line like we did' I growled as the drink and dinner cart came round and Poppy for hers straight away because of the lactose free stuff.

We were those idiots on the plane had needed to be nut free. Whilst a few of the other kids are allergic to nuts - so was Poppy but I didn't want anything to set her back so the last thing we needed was an allergic reaction or some sort of shock.

'The passports are my responsibility from now on unless you ask' I scoffed filling out all the visas and forms and things before we land.

Only difference is when we land in America - to them it's like being welcomed home because they have a citizens passport. I don't.

So I have to wait in the world longest cue whilst they all breeze through and as long as all goes to plan should be waiting with the suitcases when I come out of customs.

Unfortunately for me they weren't.

- - -

'Where's the suitcases? Have the flight not unloaded yet?' I asked.

'Yeah. Their just trying to track down two of our suitcases'

'You what?' I scoffed angrily.

As if this trip wasn't already off to a rocky start now we were missing suitcases.

'Which ones?'

'The ones with Henrys birthday presents in' he explained which made me want to Fucking scream.

'How?'

'Turns out it wasn't on our flight and now of course it will be on the next flight to Chicago to meet us later. Only trouble is we won't be in Chicago and the planes aren't landing so wherever the next flight to Chicago emergency lands we won't be'

'You are joking? I mean this trip has just got it out for us. It's all going Fucking wrong'

'Calm down Clara. It's not like it's the clothes or anything important? It's just the presents. When we get them back they can have them' John said trying to calm me down.

The worst part of all this is that you would think being in La would be amazing and warm and the perfect place for a Christmas getaway - but when we looked outside the double doors - it was storming rain.
