Chapter 45 - "Sun, Scrapes and Chocolate..."

Clara's PoV

'Beach' I said as I pulled the newspaper out of his hand 7 days into our trip. Seven days into our trip and we hadn't even set foot on the beach properly yet.

'I'm sorry?'

'Beach. Let's go' I begged already in my bikini and shorts, with my sandals and beach bag packed.

'Now?'

'We haven't been to the beach once yet John. Only that night we practically had sex on the beach. I can't go away for 15 days and come back with no tan. Please' I begged battering my eyelashes.

'I need to get dressed' he said sitting in his underpants. It was so warm here that he could wake up and not need to have any clothes on - I was the same.

'Hurrryyy upppp. I want to build a sandcastle' I pouted with a bit of a whine.

'Oh Clara. My sweet little Clara. Go ahead without me. I need to shower and get dressed. Go and get a good spot and start your sun bathing' he smirked kissing my forehead.

'Really?'

'Yeah. I'll be half an hour behind you. And hour tops'

'Yay' I squeaked leaving the small villa and feeling the sun hit my skin almost immediately. It wasn't air conditioned out here - so I was sweating buckets before I even got to the beach.

God I'm unfit.

First thing I did was hit the small shop on the side of the beach where they sold buckets with spades and coffee.

Two things I wanted right now.

I grinned happily walking towards the beach where I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to what was happening when I was cut up by someone on a skate board.

Thankfully they just about moved around me but as I stepped backwards out of the way and swivelled round - I found myself going face first and plummeting towards the ground, spilling my coffee everywhere with a little splash back on my hand.

'Fuck' I mumbled not feeling the full effect of having skid across the ground on my knees properly.

I had obviously - unconsciously - landed on my knees and skidded across the pavement a bit and the pain kicked in as I looked up.

My glasses were in shatters on the ground annoyingly and my palms were covered in blood - not as bad as they looked though. Just me being over dramatic.

'Whoa. Sorry love. You okay?' They asked as I looked up tears stinging my eyes and I saw the mans who was crouched down on the ground in front of me.

'Tom?'

'And you are?'

'Clara. My husband and I did a hike with you just yesterday' I pointed out and he smirked.

'Yeah. Your the one just couldn't make it to the top of the mountain. Just about got there. And now it turns out you can't even walk to the beach. Even flat ground makes you fall over'

'I'm just clumsy. I spend too much time with my husband. He's just as much of a klutz as I am' I smirked, as he extended a hand to me.

'Come on. The cafe there has a medical kit. Let's get you cleaned up' he laughed helping me up - and actually now I was on my feet - I could feel the pain.

- - -

'I had a Fucking kidney transplant and I didn't cry as much as this' I whined, as he ran the antiseptic wipe over my knees as I just winced and felt a tear role down my cheek.

'Your husband know where you are?'

'I texted him and told him to meet me at the cafe. I don't know if that narrows it down though' I shrugged.

'Here. Eat this. Chocolate always helps people out' he said as he sat across the table from me. 'It was my fault...  The new coffee is on me. I would however keep an eye on that hand. The other coffee was warm so it might blister still'

'How do you now all this?'

'I'm a paramedic in my real job. I just climb mountains in my spare time at the weekend' he explained.

'Ahh. That makes sense. Better you than me' I shrugged, sipping the new coffee and took a bite of the chocolate.

I was just annoyed now that I still hadn't made it to the beach and I highly doubted I would today. All I felt like doing now was going back to the villa and curling up on the sofa.

'So. Husband huh? I told you my story of the wedding and proposal. How about you?'

'Oh. We've known each other 15 years. Ironically we married once before - had two kids then split up. He took them. We met again and I had another child with him then he remarried and had a child with her. She died and so now the six of us live pretty happily. We figured it was time to tie the knot again after three years'

'Whoa?'

'Yeah. It kind of does sound like something from Jeremy Kyle' I admitted.

'What's Jeremy Kyle?'

'Tv show. Generally just a bunch of people arguing about things that are pathetic' I laughed, as he still didn't understand but then John came into the coffee shop and frowned when he saw us together.

'What's up? Why aren't you on the beach?'

'Had a bit of a collision with the ground' I pouted looking down at my knees as John did and his mouth was agape.

'I left you alone for half an hour and you managed still to get yourself injured. What am I going to do with you?' He smirked. 'Your worse than Poppy'

It was true to say that Poppy was our biggest klutz. Always coming back from school with another bruise or another scratch.

She had gone through more tights in her first month than Avia and Evie had in two years. It was hilarious though. She always had a sticker saying she'd bumped her head or done something.

'Yeah. I know. But I don't think I want to go to the beach anymore' I mumbled.

'No. Maybe a movie and just chill out?' He suggested as Tom raised an eyebrow.

'Subtle mate. Subtle. But then again it is your honeymoon... Who am I to judge?'
