Chapter 69 - "Early Christmas Day..."

Clara's PoV

'And your 100% sure?' Lilly asked confused. 'I thought you were back on the pill? I thought you were at the very least using protection?' Lilly scoffed.

'We were... no. I never went back on the pill. But there was a lot of sex on that honeymoon Lil. I mean a lot. More in two weeks than I reckon we had, had since January. In fact we had so much sex that we had a quickie on the plane' I scoffed.

'Eew. Tmi' Lilly mumbled finishing up files here in the crèche.

I should have been helping seeing as I run the crèche occasionally too - but I was too wound up.

'So what are you going to do? When you going to tell him?' Lilly asked.

'I'm so sorry lil. I know this is hard. Me pregnant when that's all you want' I mumbled.

'Hey. Me and Richard are working on it. We've got savings. We just have one shot this time though that's all'

'Lil I don't know that I want to be pregnant. What if I get to 5 months and loose it again. What if it ends up like Lissy all over again? I'm already panicking about Poppy. This just isn't the time to be pregnant' I said stressing.

'You need a scan. If you call the hospital they'll give you an emergency appointment before 12 weeks. You've miscarried so you'll be high up on the list' she explained knowing just how it all works.

'I-- I don't know if I want to do anything before Chicago'

'And spend the whole Christmas worrying about it? Wouldn't it be better just to know? Discuss it with John?'

'No. John is not to know. What do you mean John can't know?' Lilly scoffed.

'If he finds out - he'll want me to keep it and I want to make that decision alone. This is my body and something I have to consider myself' I said determined. 'The only other person that knows other than you is Avia'

'Avia? You told and 11 year old?'

'The 11 year old in question is not stupid' I hummed.

- - -

'Hey Dad' I hummed as he opened the door and it led to the flood of kids coming at me. Especially Poppy who had clearly missed me.

'Mummy. Mummy. Mummy. Henry got stinged by a wasp and Evie got grounded and Daddy broked his phone' poppy said jumping in my arms instantly.

'Hey munchkin. Sounds like a lot had been happening around here. Why is Evie grounded?'

'Don't even go there' John scoffed as Evie stropped past grumbling about John being an unfair idiot.

She only gets like that when she's grounded because she doesn't have her phone or iPad and we don't really let them watch much actual telly unless its films - so it means that Evie has to find her own entertainment.

'It's time for presents now. Mummy Clara is here' Henry said in excitement.

Dad had gotten used to the idea of Henry. At first he wasn't into being a grandad to him... but he's too much of a little boy to say no.

He didn't have a grandson and this was the closest he had gotten so far - so he had bought Henry Christmas presents and a birthday present.

We were trying to keep the birthday presents to one side because we still want him to have a birthday even if it does always get lost in the whole Christmas thing.

'Alright. Presents it is' I chuckled, dropping Poppy to the carpet who ran straight to the tree.

'Any luck?'

'I managed to get some turkey down her. But she was t keen on the gravy. Although I don't blame her - it looks like gloop when your sick' John explained. 'There's extras in the kitchen. Your Dad left your plate in the microwave'

'Good. I'm starving' I whined as I was stopped at the entrance to the kitchen. 'What?' I I scoffed as he pointed up to the mistletoe. 'I swear my Dad does that on purpose'

'I've missed you' he mumbled between kisses.

- - -

'What are you two up too?'

'Daddy and me are having a picnic' Poppy said as she was sat on the counter top in the kitchen, whilst John had the kettle boiling.

'A picnic?' I said eyebrow raised in confusion.

'Don't worry... it's only the back garden' John laughed. 'I'm taking her out with the telescope to look at some of the stars. You wanna come out too? The rest of the kids weren't bothered and henrys in bed' John suggested.

'So should Poppy'

'Poppy slept during the day - so it's not so bad. It'll be fun?' John said as he filled up one furnace of tea, and one of hot chocolate for Poppy, handed her a packet of biscuits and pulled her off the countertop.

'What's the game here?'

'I want to see if I can persuade her to eat. Even if it is just a few biscuits. If we make it fun and let her do it in her own time - at least we'll be able to get something in to her'

'So it was all plotted?'

'Yep. Feel free to join us' he hummed as he picked the box with the telescope in and ran out to the garden.

- - -

'Daddy look. The stars' Poppy squeaked jumping up and down on the slide at the other end of the garden.

'So much for your plan'

'She are 1 biscuit' he shrugged so that was progress in all fairness.

Watching her have fun out on the slide made me realise how young she is.

She has had to grow up in the last month so much and so quickly that it's not really fair. It's moments like this that she gets to be a child.

I stood up and John looked at me in confusion. 'Come on' I grinned taking his hand and running to the slide and joining in with her.

- - -

'Well someone's whacked out aren't they?' I laughed. 'She didn't even get to see all the Stars' I said as John wrapped another blanket around her and let her carry on sleeping on his lap on the sofa.

'She's probably completely exhausted' John justified.

'Hmm' I hummed as he stroked her little cheek. 'What if she doesn't make it though this? What if we're putting her through all this and she dies anyway?'

'What? She's not going to die' John scoffed but the reality was - that there was only an 85% chance of getting through this - if it comes back or what if she gets more sick?

'I know you like to live in denial John... but--'

'She's not going to die'
