Chapter 184 - "Superduper Happy Funland..."

Clara's PoV

'Mummy. Mummy. He's too cute not to buy him' Poppy said as she came running towards me and dragged me back towards where she was.

'Pop. You've got so many fluffy stuffed animals. You really don't need anymore' I grumbled.

It was true to say that our house was and had been over run by fluffy animals. She did not need another one.

'Please. Please please' she cried as I folded my arms in stubbornness but they all get a bit of stubbornness from me and I knew she would never let it go until it was bought.

Either Dad would buy it or John would so either way she would end up getting it.

'I want the fluffy bunny' she stomped with an angry me face but I wasn't giving in... even if someone else did.

'Mummy Clara. I need to pee' Henry said gripping to my shorts as I looked down.

He had taken his Sun hat off again and didn't even know where his sun glasses were. He had turned into such a cheeky little boy.

'Henry it is too hot to not have a sun hat on' I scoffed. 'You'll get another headache and then you won't be able to go to school again' I snapped putting it on his head and handing him over to John. 'You talk some sense into him because I can't be bothered'

It was sweltering hot. And I mean sweltering. It wasn't the kind of weather that was fun either because it was that horrible sticky weather where you feel like you can't breathe without breaking a sweat and it makes you completely miserable.

The kids were lagging in it as well and they normally coped so well with heat... that was the American in them. But even John was struggling a little with the heat.

It was an Autumn time heat wave... well not Autumn but it was mid September so if was practically unheard of to be this hot in the uk.

We decided to go down to the park for the evening as it was a little bit cooler but to be fair it was just as hot except there was less sun.

When we got down to the park it turns out that it was some sort of monthly fair where lots of rides and bouncy castles and fire trucks turn up for a bit of fun.

It was keeping my kids entertained... even Avia and she was a secondary school kid now... but it was nice because all her friends that she went to primary school with were here and they were all catching up.

Avia was about the only person in her class to not go to Oakwood secondary school which meant that she hadn't gone to secondary school with her friends and her best friend was Daisy.

They still see each other at the weekends and some nights after school but Avia doesn't finish school until 4 and she has to stay behind certain days of the week for an extra two hours so I know it is hard on her but it is what she chose to do.

She could have gone to the school with all her friends if she had wanted too.

'And you can keep your sun hat on as well miss' I scoffed.

'Your just as boring as I remember then?' Dad smirked having been staying with us down in the guest bedroom for the last few days as he had come down to London where the funeral was to be held for Gran because she had always made it quite clear that she was born a Londoner and wanted to buried a Londoner.

She wasn't northern like her husband was and like me and Dad were or my Mum. Her husband had made her move up north when she had Dad so that they could live in Blackpool but she didn't want that.

Thus Dad had promised her she could be buried in London.

I didn't want him staying in a hotel like he had insisted because I didn't want him to be on his own so he was staying with us and he was getting in John's nerves.

The pair don't really speak because between them they are (but mainly my Dad) still quite sour and salty with each other about the whole alcoholic and abandonment thing.

I was over it and Dad had accepted that but he would never forgive John for taking his grandchildren away and having to miss most of Avia and Evie's lives growing up into who they are.

So them living under the same roof wasn't ideal.

'I'm not boring I'm just practical. Someone has got to be' I grumbled coming to a halt on a park bench that was free and was under some shade because I really wanted to get Harry out of the heat for a little while.

You have to dress babies up because they are so delicate and have delicate little baby skin but by putting him in too many layers - he would swelter and over heat quite quickly. He already has heat rash like some of my other kids.

Evie was another one to watch in this heat because it can easily over heat her and give her a seizure which she does not need right now.

She has stared year 6 and things have gotten real for her. She needs to be calm and relaxed and having fits or worrying about fits were not the answer.

'Doesn't he look so cute when he has his little floppy hat on' Dad smirked taking hold of the one month old and give f him a squidge.

'We've agreed had wearing the hat is a cool thing that batman would do so let's all play along please?' John begged.

'Can we go and play on the bouncy castles?' Avia said.

'You don't need to ask. Your old enough. Would you take pop with you though cause adults can't go on and I don't want her to go on her own' I asked and I knew Avia would just take her.

She's a grown up little girl now.
