Chapter 6 - "Dad Dancing..."

January 23rd 2021

Clara's PoV

'Daddy dance' Henry - the two year old demanded - as he toddled towards us and completely ruined our moment.

We had barely had a moments peace in the last few months - and was it quite honestly becoming frustrating.

All I wanted to do was sit on John's lap and spend the evening kissing him but when you've got kids - that isn't always an option.

'In a minute little dude. Go and play with uncle Richard' John tried, as he pushed him away with his foot but Henry didn't give up and just came back climbing in between us - practically pushing me off of John's lap.

He was so territorial about John. He always wanted to be with John and nobody else. I shouldn't feel so jealous of a two year old - but right now I did.

'Ill go and see what everyone else is up too' I said rolling my eyes and wandered off to find Avia playing with Poppy and the pink balloons.

'Hi Mummy. Want to play balloons with us?' Avia asked.

'And what exactly does this balloons game entail?' I wondered.

'You have to see how many balloons you can carry and run to the other side of the room. Grandad managed seven. Poppy's only got little arms so she only managed one' Avia scoffed.

'And you?'

'Four' she said proudly. 'I was winning until grandad spoiled it' she huffed.

'Did you have to ruin their game Dad?'

'I didn't ruin it... I gave them a challenge' he hummed as he sipped on his beer and chatted to some relatives that I hadn't seen in years and had absolutely no intention on talking too.

'Where are you going Clara? Come and talk to your aunt' Dad yelled.

'Yeah I'm going to go and do something that isn't that' I hummed, wandering away.

I found Lilly and managed to talk to her for a while but Ollie was here as well and he was out of control.

He had entered his terrible twos already considering that he was a couple of months over two. And boy was he terrible. I just hoped that Henry didn't start to pick things up from him because I didn't need that lecture.

Ollie is practically a miracle child and as much as he is cute and everything - he gets everything that he wants. Quite literally.

Lilly would drop her whole life just to take him to a swimming class or buy him some sweets.

But that was to be expected since they did try so long for him.

'What are you doing?' Richard asked as he approached me at the bar.

'Sulking'

'Why? It is your engagement party. I mean I know the post Christmas blues have got us all down - but it doesn't mean that you have to be so depressed about it' he joked.
