Chapter 51 - "Beavers and Brownies..."

Clara's PoV

'Now don't you look like a cute little Beaver?' John smirked as he lifted Henry into his arms and chuckled.

We'd been home less than 24 hours and real life had resumed including us being home just in time to see Henry and Poppy join their beavers and brownies groups.

The bonus for Henry was that John was going to be a parent helper so he was going to be a leader at the camp.

And boy was Henry excited about the whole thing.

Poppy was excited to be joining brownies but only because she had, had her eye on Evie's brownie belt that she had from when she was in the brownies.

Now that Poppy was nearly 5 she wanted to be a brownie and they said that was fine.

'Daddy. I look cool' Henry said as he straightened the blue cap on his head and ran to the stairs to put his trainers on.

'Someone is excited' I laughed.

'He's done nothing but talk about it all week. For not even three years old you've got a clever little man there' lilly said.

It wasn't really the official beavers. It was like a baby/infant beavers for kids under 4.

'Where's Ollie?'

'Richards still trying to convince him to put the jumper on' Lilly said rolling her eyes.

It was amazing how being a parent can change you. She was terrible at controlling her own kid letting him spiral out of control with no Richard around - but when she watches our kids she's an excellent parent and/or mother figure.

'Don't forget Evie and Avia need picking up from the stables at 6 John and you can pick up dinner on your way in' I hummed with a peck on the cheek for him.

'And what exactly will you be doing whilst I'm out busting my but looking after and keeping track of all our kids?'

'Watching telly and hopefully finishing my essay before I start placement next week and finishing off some of my lesson plans that need to be done and organising the house plus I have a mountain of ironing to get through and some unpacking so I've got a busy evening. Your more than welcome to do all that instead of driving the kids around?' I suggested knowing he would much rather have the latter of jobs.

But truthfully so would I.

'Who would have thought that looking after a group of 20, 3-6 year olds would be such a challenge?' John scoffed.

'I know right?' I smirked as all the kids followed him and went to the kitchen with the food.

I could already hear the arguing from here.

'No seriously. Boys are energetic. And I've started to understand what the teachers are saying about Henry and Ollie. They should be kept apart at all costs'

'Why?' I said knowing that John was probably overreacting.

Being a teacher myself I know that sometimes there is certain kids that have to be kept apart from each other because together they just cause mayhem and it just so turned out that Henry and Ollie were one of them.

In all fairness they do spend and awful lot of time together and at each other's houses. They are like brothers.

They even have the same friends. They all play together. Whatever fiends Ollie was playing with so was Henry and vice versa.

'Oh they are difficult to control' John hummed as I heard a plate smash and I winced at the sound.

'Who did it?' I said hands on hips and looked at the guilty party pretty much instantly.

When Henry is guilty he looks at his feet and is a terrible liar so we always know that it's him. 'Evie hitted me' he said with his little lisp and burst into tears as John took him by the elbow and pushed him towards the bottom of the stairs.

Meanwhile I held my hand out for the handset that was in Evie's hand.

'That's not fair. He's the baby. He's the one that broke it' Evie scoffed as I rose an eyebrow. 'You always play favourites. Why do you have to prefer him over us? Your such a bitch' she yelled across the room as even Avia gasped.

I looked at her not sure how to process it.

When she said it as a child she was naive but she knew exactly what it mean now and how it would get her into trouble.

'How dare you' I growled.

'I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I didn't mean it' she said as she started begging and following me towards her room. 'Please. I didn't mean it' she said as the tears started to spill and the teenage attitude started to kick in.

'Move Evie' I said pushing her out of the way of her bedroom door where she had tried to block my entrance.

I straight away picked up the laptop and charger before finding the iPad and charger then left the room and headed to my room.

'I'm sorry. Please let me have it back. Please' she begged on the floor but she didn't dare come in my room.

She knew she'd be in even bigger trouble if she tried that one.

'Go to your room Evie'

'But I'm hungry' she grizzled like a 3 year old rather than a 9 almost 10 year old.

'Your 9 years old not 19. You need to start thinking about how old you really are' I threatened as I slammed the bedroom door closed.

I got to the kitchen where the tension was tense with Avia trying to pick all the plate debris up but I got pissed off and angry with everyone then so sent them all in the lounge with their dinner.

'It was hardly their fault' John hummed as I finished mopping he kitchen floor.

'I won't be spoken to like it John. Not by a 9 year old'

'What would you do if someone in your class said that?'

'Send them out and deal with them later' I hummed.

'She's 9. She's just going through stuff. You've got to chill' John said.

'Ugh. Says you. You and her were fighting on stop a few months ago' I huffed continuing to clean up as John sighed and went to give her some dinner because we both knew it wasn't fair for her to go hungry.
