Chapter 81 - "Winter Vomiting Bug..."
Clara's PoV
'38.5. Get back into bed John' I scoffed as he was faffing around the room trying to clean things up. He had a huge temperature, and was determined to just shake it off but there was no way.
It was 10am and John had been phoned and offered another flight out to Chicago this evening and he was determined to be getting on it. The next one wasn't for at least 5 days to get all of us on together but it just wasn't realistic.
Because there's so many of us it's difficult to just put the 6 of us on any random flight.
'What? Come on. We have to get organised. I want to get there' John whined, but sat down on the closest chair - as he was still very much not well.
As far as I've read about the winter vomiting bug - it doesn't pass for a good 48 - 72 hours. That's three days in bed at least. Some even last up to a week.
'John. Seriously. We cannot fly. Henry, Poppy and Avia have all got this bug too. Realistically we cannot fly for a week. It spreads so fast this bug and I do not want to give it to 500 plane passengers' I said making a stand. 'The next time we get on a plane will have to be back to London for the new year' I said as he was so disappointed.
'But we've come all this way. We've made it to America. We have to try' he pouted.
'We can't. And you know it. Henry can't hit a bucket and there's no way Avia will move when sick. And it just isn't fair on Poppy when she's struggling with enough as it is without vomiting and having the shits. It just can't happen' I said as he folded his arms and pouted like a child, as I wandered away from him on the chair still.
'Can we open presents now?' Evie whined wanting so badly to delve into her stocking.
Poppy was awake and so was Henry but they were both feeling pretty rough. But they were energised enough to open some of their stocking presents before Poppy gave up and went back to sleep.
I felt so bad for her because she wasn't just struggling with the illness now - now she had the bloody winter vomiting bug.
I don't even know who everyone got it off of. The worst part about it all was that we couldn't even get any medication for any of them because it was Christmas Day.

'I got loads of hair stuff' Evie said excitedly as she was styling her hair in the mirror.
I wasn't too sure what we should do about Christmas lunch? Because there's no way Avia and Poppy are going to want to go - and quite frankly I can't see John getting more than a metre away from the bathroom at this point.
'Shall I take Evie for lunch?' I suggested as I lifted Henry into my arms and he hid his face in my the crook of my neck. 'Or at least see if we can get something from downstairs. It might be nice for Evie to get some fresh air anyway' I smiled as I didn't see it coming but I had pointed out earlier that Henry doesn't have a good aim.
This time it was all over me.

'Hmm. There's a little store down the road that might possibly be open? It's got a few necessities?' The lady on reception said as I explained out situation.
We generally travel with medication and things like thermometers just in case of an emergency but John needs something and the kids stuff isn't even making a dent on Avia anymore.
'Thank you so much' I smiled as Evie walked out in front of me and we headed down the road of the place.
We were not too far from the airport - and I knew that if we were staying here in LA for the next 6 days that we would have to move to a different hotel. Somewhere that has more around it and was good for the kids to get out.
It was shockingly not cold today considering there was a huge rain storm yesterday. Some people were looking at us as if we were mad to be going out in the rain but were British. This kind of rain is nothing to us.
'Right were just here for some basic bits' I said to Evie as she wandered off to look at all the little tourist bits and left me wandering to the medications isle.
I wondered why this place was open on Christmas Day. It was like a little market but I suppose not everyone celebrates Christmas.
I picked up what must have been the American equivalent of calpol for the little ones and found some paracetamol for the older ones, then found a few other cold and flu remedies before finding Evie in the sweets isle.
I let her get some sweets and loaded up on some water and juice to see if we can't settle some stomachs and the two of us went to pay.
'Your brave going out in that rain. You must be drenched'
'Were British. Nothing like a little bit of rain that we can't handle' I chuckled.
'Ahh. Your probably the only mad ones that are' she smiled packing up the shopping.
Then the two of us made our way back to the hotel.

I made an effort for dinner by getting a few burgers and chips ordered but most turned their noses up at it leaving just me and Evie to eat and watch whatever rubbish was on Christmas Day here in LA.
'Are we going to Chicago still Mummy?' Evie asked.
'I don't know sweetheart. Probably not' I said munching on some chips. I'm surprised I hadn't for this illness yet. I was even more surprised that Evie didn't have it - but hopefully it would bypass us both.
'I wanted to go' she hummed.
