Chapter 113 - "HomeComing Party..."

Clara's PoV

'So young lady. You need to behave for your Mummy and Daddy' Connor smirked as Poppy gave him a massive hug.

Thankfully he would still be out burse for her and would still come on all of her home visits and would still get to look after her and be very close to her but this was the day we had finally been waiting for.

The day where she finally gets to come home.

She was going to be extremely happy with her room as well I just knew it.

We had made it the priority to get her room ready first because we knew she would be spending a lot of time in there throughout this next stage of the recovery.

Two of the walls were painted a really dark purple and had glitter stars painted onto them as promised and the other walls were black.

It made the room really cosy especially with the lamps and fairy lights we had put up.

Her bed looked very cosy, we had bought a new one so that it had a roll out bed - that way if Poppy was having a restless night now it meant that one of us could sleep in her bedroom with her without loosing sleep or having to sleep on the uncomfortable hard floor or having to throw the other out of the double bed so Poppy could come in.

It worked out in our favour.

The bed sheets were galaxy printed and all around the room looked amazing.

It had a book shelf - courtesy of Avia and had her iPad and toys in there. I knew she would be very happy and snugly.

'Bye Conner. See you on Monday' she said with a cheeky wave not sad in the slightest because she knew she would see him again.

Plus the fact she knew that she was going home and that's what she had wanted to do since day one.

She jumped straight into John's arms that were waiting to catch her and we went towards the car.

I had all her stuff that had been accumulated in the hospital room for the last few weeks as well as the hundreds of boxes of medication that she would need to take as well as her schedule for them and things she needs to eat.

It was a battle now for us to deal with.

We had to make sure that she eats as she recovers and becomes an outpatient for treatment and blood transfusions because if she doesn't comply then she'll have to go back to the hospital and be put on a drip.

I really would rather we didn't have to go back to that.

As far as we know she's doing and done really well. The bone marrow transplant were hoping can go ahead soon - but she needs to finish the 8 week course of chemo first which she'll complete by living at home.

It was a lot to do to be honest and it was something that John had decided he wanted to take on.

He can work from home - so he can be much more flexible. I however can't teach a group of 30 8 year olds from my bedroom. That would be impossible and extremely weird.

'Daddy. Can we do my jigsaw puzzle now? The 1000 piece one of all the planets? You promised we could after I camed home from the hospital' she begged.

'Of course we can' John sighed. I knew how much he hated jigsaw puzzles - he just wanted her to be happy.

'Right... Do you want to take the first watch or shall I?' John asked as I collapsed in the bed with Evie reading me her reading book.

I wasn't listening and was really just helping when she got stuck on certain words but that wasn't the point.

'Huh?'

'It clearly states in the schedule that she has to have medication every six hours... that includes during the night. So I'm thinking if she goes to bed at 8 then you or I can do a tablet check at 2am and then she wakes up at about 8ish so one then. Then 2pm' he explained.

'God that's one way to practice for a baby. I won't get a proper nights sleep now for at least 18 months' I complained with a yawn sending Evie on her way.

'We have to do it Clara. If we can't cope then she'll have to go back to the hospital and I don't want that' he begged.

He had finally got his little girl home and he didn't want to let her go again.

'I'll set an alarm for 2am. It's not fair that you look after her all day and then all night. I can do the nighttime medication' I smiled assuringly.

'You won't be able to manage all the time. We'll have to split the shifts' he hummed.

Little did I know just how much it was going to take it out of me all this.

'Oi. Clara. Hello?' Adrian said as he clicked and snapped his finger in front of my face in the staff room.

I had zoned out so much I was practically asleep whilst marking the spelling books.

'Oh shit. Sorry. I'm awake' I mumbled with a yawn.

'Your burning out?' He sighed handing me a strong cup of coffee and sat next to me.

'It wouldn't be so bad if it was just the giving her the medication and then going back to sleep. But she generally throws up about 45 minutes after it as a side effect and then needs calming to sleep. It becomes a 2 hour task - plus then once I'm awake the fricken baby is awake' I said rolling my eyes.

'Baby's moving?'

'Only tiny, tiny flutters but they're there. I only feel them because I'm more conscious of feeling them' I explained.

'Have you thought about just hiring some help?'

'John won't do that. He wants to look after her himself'
