Miles and I laid facing each other, his hand caressing my cheek. Our noses were barely touching each other, our legs intertwined.

There was a French record playing quietly in the background, other than that there wasn't much noise.

I studied Miles's eyes, they were so simple yet so lovely. "You're really pretty..." I whispered, my eyes trailing down to his freckles, then further to his lips.

Miles noticed and leaned in, lightly kissing my lips. I closed my eyes and kissed back, moving my head to the side so I could have more access.

Miles pulled away and I laid back down. He brushed some hair out of my face and tucked it behind my ear.

"I love you..." he whispered. I smiled and laughed a little, leaning my forehead against his. "I love you too..."

"Get your flat ass up!" My stomach flipped and I landed on the floor. "Miles, what the fuck..." I mumbled, rubbing my eyes.

Of course.

It was a dream.

"Finally. You were all over me last night! Jesus Christ..." I sat up and stretched. I promised myself I'd tell him today.

"Are we still up for a picnic? Or are you too busy having wet dreams about me?" I blushed and threw a pillow at him.

"You wish I dreamt about you..! Also, yes, we are still up for a picnic." Miles nodded and I got up. I grabbed my bag and pulled out my outfit for today.

It was Miles's favorite dress I owned. He bought it for me after I tried it on as a joke in a boutique in town.

Miles was walking around his room, doing god knows what. All I know is that he's wearing grey sweatpants, his v line is exposed, and god he's hot.

I felt the butterflies in my stomach as I studied the freckles on his lower abdomen. I don't know how they got there but I'm not complaining.

He pulled out an outfit and I snapped back into reality, grabbing my clothes. I walked into his bathroom and changed out of my pajamas.

I sighed in frustration as I tried to hook my bra in the back. "Come on..." I whispered in annoyance. "Fuck." I groaned, defeated.

I held my bra closed in the back and unlocked the door. "Miles..." I squeaked, peeking out. "Yeah?" He was wearing his white pants with his knee-high boots.

"I... Need your help..." I whispered, opening the door. Miles's cheeks flushed, as did my own. I turned around and Miles walked over.

He took the straps from my hands, his fingers lightly brushing against my back. "Which row?" He asked awkwardly. "Middle..." I muttered.

Miles hooked my bra for me, his fingers lingering on my skin for a moment after.

He cleared his throat and I thanked him, walking back into the bathroom. That was fucking hot... I thought as I shut the door.

I grabbed my dress and slipped it over my body. It had small puffed sleeves and a square cut neckline. It was a creamy white, the skirt fell just below my knees. I picked up the ribbon that went around my waist and carried it out.

"I've brought your favorite." I said, trying not to be awkward. Miles smiled and I handed him it. He tied it around my waist and made a nice bow in the back.

"Lovely..." he mumbled. I bent down and picked up my socks and shoes. I slid them on and stood up. Miles grabbed my hand and we walked downstairs.

"Where are you two going?" Kate asked. "To the fields for a picnic." Miles answered, grabbing the basket Ms. Grose prepared for us.

We walked out to the horses and I became progressively more anxious. Miles acted as he normally did, comfortably joking with me.

We got to the stables and Miles brought his horse out. I sat down as he prepared the black stallion for us.

I think that horse knows I like him.

I don't know why I think that sometimes I just feel like it does things to try and get us together. It's weird.

Once, Miles and I were messing around, and all of a sudden he came running at us. I panicked and froze so Miles pulled me on top of him to protect me.

The horse stopped and trotted around while Miles and I laid on the ground, centimeters away from a kiss.

"Come on!" Miles shouted. I walked over and he helped me onto the back. I sat with both legs on the left side, holding onto Miles's waist for dear life.

He snapped the reins and we started to go.

When we arrived, Miles tossed the horse an apple, which he gladly ate. I laid out the picnic blanket, opening the basket, and setting the food out.

Miles sat down and grabbed a sandwich. He started talking but I wasn't really processing what he was saying.

"Y/n?" I looked up and hummed. "What's going on? You've been acting weird..." I bit my lip and shook my head. "It's nothing..."

"What? Tell me!" Miles pleaded. "No, I'm too scared... Just eat your food Miles." I said, grabbing my sandwich.

Miles snatched it away and threw both sandwiches into the woods. "What the fuck?!" I shouted, standing up.

"What's going on?!" He asked, also standing up. "I said it was nothing so leave me alone!" Miles groaned in frustration, not being able to handle the curiosity.

"FUCK JUST TELL ME WH-"

"I'M IN LOVE WITH YOU."

He stopped, just standing there. I sighed and felt my lip quiver. "You're... My best friend. You're like my sister." He whispered.

I felt like I'd just been stabbed in the chest, my eyes started to water. "I just... We fucking... Agh!" He groaned in frustration, unable to get out the proper words.

He stared at the ground next to him with a scowl on his face. I sighed and hiccuped, turning away from him.

Miles didn't say anything as I started to walk into the woods. I continued to walk until I was deep enough in to see the stream.

The stream was quite a long ways away from the estate in and Miles and I hadn't been to it in years. I sat down on a rock by the bank, staring at the water.

There were fish in the water, swimming happily. I rested my head in my knees and started to cry harder.

I knew I shouldn't have said anything. God, how could I be so stupid?! I cried not only because he'd rejected me but because now I'd lost my only friend.

Now I was in the world, alone.
