Marella gently leaned Sophie up, placing another pillow behind the girl. Slowly unwrapping her friends fingers from the cup of cold tea, she quickly warmed it to the perfect temperature, shaking steam from her right hand.

A droplet landed on the newest edition to the prattles pin K, a gift from last time Keefe barged in.

"Thanks," Sophie rasped. One terrible thing about weird genetics was an amplified period. Her pain was amplified, her hormones were way crazier, and her cravings were insane. "Can you do that heating pad thing again?"

"Livvy said too much of it wasn't safe," Marella warned.

"Please?"

The pyrokinetic grumpily relented, making sure the sheet was out of the way.

Sophie was in a thin, breathable onesie. One thing she despised during her period was the elastic in clothes. It always felt tight, ramping up her discomfort. She sighed, a sleepy murmur of relief released from her lips, eyes closed.

"Time to change your tampon," Marella ordered. Groaning, Sophie got out of bed to comply. Pads always felt like diapers, and the elvin period tech seemed too sneaky-so comfy Sophie would forget to change it at the right time and soak her clothes. Photographic memory didn't help if she didn't set a mental goal.

Grumbling her way to the bathroom, Sophie did as she was told.

"I heard your hormone-induced love rant earlier. Why don't you just tell him? It's Keefe. He's never going to make fun of you for feeling something," Marella told her friend.

Sophie was just glad Keefe hadn't been there during it. She wasn't ready for that kind of humiliation. Marella had already kicked him out at least fifteen times to let Sophie rest, insisting a pyrokinetic was more useful than an idiot with weird hair.

He had been extremely offended.

"It's too soon. He needs time." Sophie knew Marella was right about one thing. Keefe was oblivious. He didn't know Sophie lived and breathed for him, that she would die for him. And Sophie intended for it to stay that way. Sophie couldn't live without him. Keefe didn't need that burden added to his shoulders. His baggage was already rooting him to the ground. Keefe could have anyone he wanted. Sophie would need to learn to love herself before confessing her love to anyone else.

"Okay. Just don't wait until it's too late."

A grim mood settled among them.

"Heating pad?"

"Heating pad."

(I was having a hard time not writing Marella & Sophie, but I think it turned out okay. What do you think?)
