Sophie stepped through the swirling smoke, pale flecks of ash settling around her in a halo. Her snowy locks rested in a slant to just above her shoulders. Her eyes were set before her, face stony.

She raised a sleek black pistol, shooting off three rounds at the Neverseen members before reloading, tracking those around her with Telepathy. Two more rounds.

"I know exactly where you are. Show yourself or die like the others," Sophie announced. When there was a beat of silence, she opened her mouth. "When we're young, we're taught the difference between a hero and a villain. Good, and evil. A savior and a lost cause.

But what if the only real difference is just who's telling the story? I used to be the Council's savior. Now I'm a lost cause. It's up to you to decide," the young woman called out. "Because I don't give mercy to killers."

A voice rang out from the shadows, Sophie keeping her gun trained on their heart

"How hypocritical."

"Tell me where my friends are," she spat. "You have thirty seconds."

"Oh, you didn't know? You can't hurt me with that toy. I'm a phaser, little girl."

"And I'm tired of your bullshit. You have fifteen seconds left," Sophie said, gritting her teeth.

After five, she inflicted. Pain, grief, overwhelming sadness.

The Neverseen member fell violently to the ground, writhing. They grasped their head, digging their fingernails into their scalp. Stalking over to the hooded elf, Sophie's shadow loomed over their body.

"Let's try this again. Where. Are. They."

"Amatuer," the villain choked out. "Pain can drive you to do terrible things." With that, they lunged forward, knife about to sink into Sophie's thigh when she suddenly moved behind, plucking the dagger away.

"Traitor. I'm nobodies moonlark, Fernan. Not even yours."

Fuck the rules of telepathy. Sophie had known exactly where her friends were the moment she was in the vicinity. Carving her own symbol into the body, she watched the man bleed out. Sophie made sure he was dead.

The dead keep their secrets.
