Sophie emerged from Keefe's mind, enraged.

"I'm gonna kill him," Sophie said scarily, fists clenched. Keefe eyed the sucker punch on her wrist. He opened and closed his mouth as she glared at him before her expression softened. "He had no right, saying that to you."

Keefe smiled brokenly.

"I know."

"Do you? Because you listened to him," Sophie whispered. "I'm my own person, and I make my own choices."

God, she hated Alden. Making Keefe a pawn in his little scheme. The worst part was, Alden didn't even say it because he cared about Fitz. He just wanted to preserve the Vacker name. And love-bombing Keefe? Emotionally manipulating him?

Alden had taken advantage of Keefe's insecurities. He had used Keefe and his daddy issues to further his own agenda. Sophie hated him for it. 

"I'm sorry," she choked out. "I'm so, so sorry I didn't see you."

Keefe sat up with a jolt, cupping Sophie's cheeks with his hands. She met his eyes, tearing up.

"It will never be your fault. Ever."

"I'm still mad at you for leaving again," Sophie said, wiping her eyes. "You should have told me. The letter was a cop-out."

"Yeah, it was," he said, smiling- a real smile this time. "If I had known the word love would have woken you up, I would have said it a lot sooner."

"You didn't say it though," Sophie sniffled.

"I love you."

"I love you too. But I'm still mad."

Keefe laughed.

"I know."

(I'm sorry I haven't updated in a hot sec! I was reminded of the flashback short story and wanted to write about it. So I combined it with unlocked. Sophie tracked his mind, and fell into his memories in way- the one he was thinking of. )
