Sophie, to be frank, felt like shit. She had a chance to save countless innocents, and prevent so many catastrophes, yet she had kept her damn mouth shut and hid her chance away where it would rot away in the recesses of the void.
"What do I do," she asked Keefe, pressure mounting. She met his eyes, her own red, nails digging into Keefe's palms as she gripped both his hands in an attempt to stay tethered to this reality. To Keefe.
"You won't be doing anything alone," he said urgently. "I'm not going anywhere."
"If I were to say yes- hypothetically- we would have to figure some things out. Like, how far back would we go? What would we keep secret? Where-"
"Hey. It's alright." Keefe sent calming waves through Sophie's mind, and she dropped her head down to rest on Keefes chest. "We can't do much as six year olds, can we?" Sophie choked out a laugh.
"We'll have to choose our battles, Keefe. People will still die."
Keefe cradled Sophie's head in his hands, meeting her eyes.
"We can't save everyone. But we can still save some." Sophie nodded, crying.
"Keefe-we'll go into this having to relive some of the worst times of our lives. You'll have to live with your mom, knowing what she's done. I - I don't know if I can live with doing that to you."
It would be tortue to live with someone who betrayed you before you were even born. Who, in the future, would repeatedly try to kill you and your friends.
"Foster, listen to me. It's my choice to do this," Keefe reassured her. "You aren't forcing me to do anything."
"Okay."
They agreed to go back to the day Fitz found Sophie- maybe she could go through it again without letting people see a lampost hovering mid air. Each morning and night, Sophie would transmit so they could talk, updating each other on what happened.
Besides, Foxfire would be a breeze. It would barely take time out of their days to do schoolwork.
Pulling the key Thorne had given her out of the void, Sophie held one end, Keefe grasping the other.
"On three?"
Sophie nodded.
"One."
"Two."
"Three."
They snapped the key together.
