Sophie and Keefe were in the middle of transferring a poor Emissiary's memories from Sophie's mind to paper after a recent Neverseen attack when the speakers to the stone house blared.
"EVERYONE STAY WHERE YOU ARE. SUPPLIES AND HELP WILL BE COMING SHORTLY." Sophie and Keefe exchanged frightened looks. "A PANDEMIC CAUSED BY STELLARLUNE, QUINTESSENCE, AND SHADOWFLUX HAS BROKEN OUT ON A LARGE SCALE. EFFECTS OF CONTRACTING THE ELIGHT-2 IS LOSING YOUR ABILITIES, AND AT THE WORST, DEATH. GET USED TO THE PEOPLE YOU'RE AROUND BECAUSE YOU'RE GOING TO BE STUCK WITH THEM FOR A WHILE.
Keefe and Sophie were the only ones currently in the stone house. This was going to be interesting. The stone house had been converted to a help center after the Celestial Festival disaster, and imparters were ringing off the hook with news of Neverseen attacks, and Sophie had been put on a shift with Keefe and she felt needed, but unimportant. It was a strange medium.
"Sooo, Foster." They met eyes once again, the swirling depths behind them filled with everything unsaid. Keefe gave an odd smile. "We'll be learning a lot more about each other, huh." Ro eagerly nodded, clearly glad Sandor had been called to Gildingham last minute, and the fact Bo had a similar arrangement. It was Flori, Nubti, Sophie, Keefe, and Ro. This was going to be fun.
"Yeah." Sophie was the first to look away, reaching for the next piece of paper. Keefe's shoulders slumped as he continued to fill in the blanks from the Emissiary's memories. It was a harrowing process. Memories being implanted into Sophie, using telepathy to put them on paper, and Keefe filling in the unknown. Keefe would much rather be doing other things. But those would have to wait.
~3 hours later~
"Fosteeeeeeeer. I need fooooooooooooood." Sophie muttered something about mallowmelt and stuffing indigoobers up Keefe's nose, but Keefe chose to ignore that. "I'm the chef now," Keefe said proudly, puffing out his chest. Sophie rubbed her tired eyes, not wanting to admit food was just what she needed, or that she couldn't cook. Except for the occasional chocolate chip cookie, Sophie was hopeless.
"Fine," Sophie mumbled, rolling her eyes. Keefe's eyes widened.
"What was that? Was I given permission by Miss Workaholic to go cook?" The grand gestures and arms spreading made Sophie want to put her head in her hands and let out an extremely long groan.
"Yes, Keefe. Yes, you were." Keefe cheered and raced into the tiny kitchen, abruptly bonking his head on the low cabinets, and Sophie couldn't hold back a snort. "Who's the clumsy one now?" Sophie got up to help Keefe and tripped on her chair leg, rewarded with laughter.
"Still you Foster, still you," Keefe presumed smugly.
"My leg's still asleep!" Keefe laughed again and walked over to help her, lifting Sophie into his arms.
"Where to?" Sophie crossed her arms, giving in.
"The bedroom." Keefe carried Sophie up the cleanly carved stairs, careful not to bump her into any walls. He sat her down and miraculously only looked back once, focusing on preparing some nicely spiced vegetables that looked like mushy french fries with more of a bacon and eggs taste. He delicately brought the platter upstairs, setting the silver tray on the floor, smiling at the half-asleep Sophie, still answering calls.
Keefe snatched the imparter from Sophie.
"Excuse me, there has been an incident with an ex-client, Bobette the purple flying potato. I'm afraid we need to deal with that right now, we'll get back to you first thing tomorrow." Sophie gaped at Keefe, her eyes heavy.
"Did you just do that?"
"Yes, yes I did."
"Nice story by the way." Keefe just smiled and handed Sophie one of the blue fries. She snarfed them down, eyes closing a bit more with every move she had to make until she conked out, Sophie's head almost hitting the hard rock floor before Keefe caught her, placing Sophie in the only bed, opting to sleep on the floor.
(A/N: I hope you enjoyed the preview! Duh, ya'll know wut it was inspired by. Should I officially post it as a fanfic? I look forward to de answers. This one will be a lot less fluff, and more of a story with more Keefe jokes. DO NOT BE A SILENT READER. Buh-byee)
