( Nothing good starts in a getaway car )

"What," Marella asked. "Afraid you'll fall for me?"

"Of course not," The Vacker huffed, fight or flight response activated. "It would be utterly inconceivable."

"So you'll do it?"

"What," Biana exclaimed, flustered. "I never agreed!"

"Oh." The blonde pouted, looking up at the vanisher from under her eyelashes. "But I was so looking forward to it."

"Look, the only thing I don't understand, is why me? Why at all, to be specific."

"Sophie has Keefe, you've heard what Stina's said about my family, Tam could sniff it out in a heartbeat, and I barely know Maruca. Plus, my mom was . . . really excited when I said I got my match list, even though my dad had to take me. I figured it would make her happy."

As much as the story touched Biana, she knew something was missing.

"You said  you got your match list?"

Marella shrugged. "Well, pyrokinetics are unmatchable, so . . . ."

And there it was. The tidbit of information Biana's mind had glossed over. The elvin world was a paradise with jagged edges, the injustice of it all fueling the Vacker's rage. It didn't have to be this way. Maybe she was the first step to changing it.

"I'll do it. I'll be your fake girlfriend."

( So . . . a lotta fake dating 'round in these parts, huh? )
